I tested the new phase 4 (in multi only so far) and beating in the legitimate way seems really doable, but yes, pillars still do the trick!
I like when a game allow different strategies and synergies between items. There are a lot of ways to cheese this game (Artefact of Command and Sacrifice for example) and allow people to adapt and still play smart.
If you'r doing wrong in Monsoon, you still will be punished anyway, you have to really know the game, using such strategies or not. And if you want a bigger challenge, go to alternative modes and put yourself some restrictions (no hit).
And if you'r done 100% the game like me, you still can check good mods like the community made Sniper class or Classic Items from RoR 1.
