"A project I been working on.

A sprite, voxel and sound replacement for the Disperser shotgun/grenade launcher combo. Now available at: www.moddb.com/games/ion-fury/addons/ion-shotgun

Enjoy!

PS. I've updated the mod as of 14.09/20 so this image is slightly out of date, but still represents what this little mod does (note that the link is still the same and will direct you to the updated files). The changes are:

- Added a fury.def with automatic start up parameters to ease installation
- Applied Anti-Aliasing to remove the jaggies on the Ion Shotgun
- Removed some odd brown pixels (most noticeable in the cheek rest)
- The no ammo symbol now changes colour during the reload sequence
- Rounds in magazine has more shading
- Removed that weird yellow effect on the grenade/shotgun tips
- Shelly will now slightly lift the shotgun up during the reload so her hand is visible
- Greatly improved voxel textures plus utilised more gradients
- Better muzzle flash and removed the odd green glow
- Added in-game posters for the Ion Shotgun"

Now THIS is a shotgun for the game, welldone man. The weapons in this game ((along with many other things)) were a giant let down of creativity, this actually looks like it's had some time behind it.

I hope so too! However, no rush. All the best to you! :steamhappy:

Your welcome man! It was a great learning process too. I'm hoping the upcoming IF expansion pack will give me inspiration for modding the game again!

I appreciate your reply! So I guess the problem with the glowing parts is different from the issue I had back then with GZDoom. Anyway, if you ever get around to fixing it, awesome. If not, well, too bad, but such is life. Sounds like you're busy enough. I read your making of the shotgun just now, an entertaining read. Thanks!

Cheers man!

You can add full-bright pixels to any of the sprites in the game (from what I know), however due to some specific colours being used for a palette swap for the shotgun (to indicate between shotgun and explosive ammo) it caused some unwanted effects for a glowing display so I scrapped that idea.

Although, I was editing the gun sprite itself, and there is actually another separate sprite ontop of it (that top sight that flips up/down depending on which ammo is used) which I don't think uses palette swap. Methinks if I put the full-bright display on that one, it might work.

No worries mate, I appreciate your hard work and enjoy your sprites! One more thing with the Ingrams is that they look kinda jaggy, like there's not enough anti-aliasing, when compared to the other weapons.

Regarding that glow effect, I believe I know what you mean. I used to make sprites for GZDoom years ago and understood how to overwrite existing brightmaps, but not how to add my own. I could change them if they were already there, but I couldn't create new ones. I guess that's your problem as well? Seeing as how the default shotgun doesn't have any brightmaps/glowing parts?

The MP5K is the most complete, and whilst the Uzi and Ingram are what I set out to achieve, there's always room for improvement: the Uzi has a really janky reload and someone requested the Ingram to be held upright. I'd love to go back and improve/make additions to these, however thanks to general adult responsibilities and juggling between 2-3 jobs, this won't be anytime soon unfortunately (or at all, who knows).

yea I'm an absolute clutz, I dunno how long that file has been missing for, no one has reported it until now.

Ah yea the display unfortunately doesn't glow in the dark due to the way the sprite has been programmed with the game and my lack of programming knowledge to make it work... although now I think about it, I could probably attempt a work around. Thanks for reminding me about that, hopefully I can return to this again in the future!

Another question/remark: The brightmaps, or whatever they're called, don't seem to work with this mod. The digital display and small lights aren't lit up in darker areas. Do you plan on fixing this, just like you did with the lights on the uzi(s)?
Henry Swanson 4 Jul, 2021 @ 1:06pm
Yeah, it works perfectly fine now. Looks like the problem was that the fury.def file was missing earlier. Thanks a lot!

Which of your other weapon mods (Ingram, Uzi, MP5) do you consider to be "completed"?
