The very first level of the game has little to no indications of who halo is and where they are, the few hints that the first level does provide is when you go down into an escape pod. But the second level is when you get your definitive answer, hence why the level is named Halo. Progress through the second level until you get to a groundhog, board the car and as you turn the camera you will see who is driving it, yes it's Halo. You have been playing as Halo all along. And that answers it Halo, the man on every Halo game poster is the person you played as all along.
