Its really easy if you know how to keep sim's mood at its best. From my point of view, it will really great if you start off from one sim. Grind him/her until reached the peak of their career and start another one and merge them to get extra $16k. Since your first sim is already on the top, it should be easy about money and all. From this point, you can choose either getting marriage and kids at early time or get your 2nd sim at the top first. The safest point is to get both of your sim at top first so you can have free time to handle the kids later on, but if you want to daredevil like me choose the first option. The key of having great kids is on how you manage your female sim when she's pregnant because it will let you control their traits later when born.
