Zee's Balanced Ship Refits

Description
=+=+=+=Welcome to Zee's Balanced Ship Refits=+=+=+=

This mod aims to improve the Naval Ship Designer and Convert/Refit functionality of the game.
Man The Guns is now integrated into the base game, and is no longer required.

There are 2 key changes made by this mod:
  • First, the Naval XP requirements to design and swap modules on warships is reduced, allowing you to play around with the fun new designer.
  • Second, the IC and Time required to refit ships is reduced.
Simple radio upgrades for your battleship will no longer take a year...

=+=+=+=The Details=+=+=+=
  • Set cost of adding new module to ship design to 1 XP, down from 5 XP
  • Set cost of upgrading module on ship design to 2 XP, down from 3 XP
  • Set cost of changing module on ship design to 3 XP, down from 6 XP

  • Base IC cost for refitting reduced from 20% of ship IC, to 5% of ship IC
  • Module cost < 999 - Same Category refit cost is 50%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 30%
  • Module cost > 1000 - Same Category refit cost is 40%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 25%
  • Engine cost < 999 - Same Category refit cost is 200%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 150%
  • Engine cost > 1000 - Same Category refit cost is 100%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 75%
  • Armor dismantle costs cut by ~75%

Some Context:
  • "Same Category" means any change that isn't a direct upgrade. For example, upgrading from a Cruiser Engine T1 to T3, or downgrading from T4 to T3, would both be considered "Same Category". Upgrading from T2 to T3 would be "Direct".
  • 200% may seem like a lot for engines, but vanilla had this value set to 500% or higher in many cases.
  • What the game calls "Armor dismantle costs", are really just "Armor Replacement" costs - whether its an upgrade or a downgrade. Vanilla had this value set anywhere from 4000 to 8000 IC, easily the cost of an entire heavy cruiser built from scratch.

Corrected Several Bugs:
  • Vanilla does not assign discounts when crossing between "Standard" guns and "Dual Purpose" guns for DD's, CL's, and Secondary guns.
  • Vanilla does not apply any discounts to the entire Dual Purpose line of guns when changing to another DP gun as a result of a typo in the code.
  • Vanilla is also missing Light Cruiser gun discounts because it mislabeled the gun upgrade as Heavy Cruiser.
  • Vanilla does not add discounts for many Tier 1 components.
  • All of these bugs are corrected within the mod.

-=-=-=-=-Compatibility-=-=-=-=-
This should be compatible with most mods, with the possible exception of Naval Rework Mods and Grand Overhaul mods. Let me know if you confirm a conflict.

Confirmed Compatible:
- Road to 56
- Kaiserreich
- Hearts of Oak
- MTG Expanded
- Old World Blues

Confirmed NOT-Compatible:
(these might be patchable but I don't have the time, try DIY)
- Black Ice
- Extended Tech Tree 1960
- Equestria at War
- The Great War
- The New Order

- Naval Ship Designer - Cheaper Ship Designer - Cheaper Modules - Cheaper Naval XP - Less XP -

Updated for 1.17

- Integrated 1.17's new sub-launched torpedo hit-chance nerfs
(Interestingly, 1.17 nerfed the sub visibility bonus from snorkel and coating to the same values this mod has been using for years...)
- Integrated new Seaplane Tender definition
- Integrated new carrier surface/sub detection values
- Integrated new Escort Carrier definition
- Integrated new Submarine Carrier definition
- Integrated new Sonar 3/4 definitions

Let me know if you encounter any issues. Enjoy!!

Thanks for all the notices about the needed update! I will probably be able to push that out this weekend. @ethanp89 add me on steam if you wanna share your work, could make things easier for me.

Hi Zee. I have carried over your changes into the new 1.17.0 No Compromise, No Surrender DLC. Currently for personal use. If you would like me to upload or share I can. Thanks!

Just to let you know, using this mod with the new DLC doesn't allow Escort Carriers to equip a Hangar Space Module.

Is it compatible with Red Flood?

Thanks for this mod. This feels much more balanced and realistic than the numbers they have in Vanilla. Thank you.

Hi _Zee, Thanks so much for the recommended fix. I was playing just last night and now 12 hours later I couldn't load in. Fix works like a charm mate. :happyhearthling:

@_Zee: The very strange thing is that it only just started happening. I'm certain I last played more recently than two weeks ago!

Damn I was hoping that wouldn't happen on the upload. It gave me the same error during my local testing but I didn't think it was affecting the Steam upload.

C'mon guys, I can't believe it took 2 weeks to report this! :P I could have fixed this much sooner.

I will re-upload and return the mod name to the original so it's not an issue for future updates.

If your save is blocking you because it says the mod is missing, open the mod folder in your steam/workshop folder, and temporarily change the mod name so you can get into your save.
Follow these steps:
Access your HOI4 mod directory at ...\steam\steamapps\workshop\content\394360
Open folder 2073318750, which is this mod.
Then open the file named 'descriptor.mod' with any text editor program.
Change the line that says 'name="Zee's Balanced Ship Refits V2.1"' and either erase or add the 'V2.1' part as needed, then save the file, and continue your save.

Many apologies, this will never need to be done again moving forward.
