Before we begin, I need to get a few things out of the way. When writing this guide, I had the alternative controls with an Xbox One controller in mind. I'm sure it'll work the same with an Xbox 360 controller or DualShock 4, but if you're using keyboard and mouse, I'd step away from this guide.
1. Walking / Running
With alternative controls, you can walk with either the left analog stick or the directional pad. If you use the left analog stick, you'll run automatically. While using the directional pad, you'll do a plain walk, and will have to hold down the X button to run. Personally, I like to primarily use the directional pad, as you'll have better control over Jill / Chris. When using the analog stick, you'll find that switches in camera angles can make your character go in the wrong direction when you correct the angle of your analog stick. The one advantage of using the analog stick is that turning around is a lot faster than quick turning with the directional pad. I would personally recommend getting used to using both, since they both have advantages in game play.
2. Firearm Reloading Technique
In Resident Evil / Biohazard HD remaster, you'll pick up various different weapons, and knowing your weapons can make the difference of life and death. Make sure you know how much ammunition your firearm can hold, and make sure you also count your shots, as having to reload when a zombie is about to take a bite out of you is never a position you want to be in. On top of that, you have the choice of manually reloading in two different ways (pressing the reload button while aiming / combining your firearm with its ammunition on the inventory screen), or reloading automatically when you go empty. I recommend the second manual method, as it allows you to skip the loading animation, which can be very helpful if you're in a tight situation.
3. How To Avoid Creating Crimson Heads
Whenever you kill a zombie, leaving it out will give it the opportunity to return as a more violent and aggressive zombie referred to as a crimson head. However, there's various ways you can prevent this.

1. Burning them
Throughout the game, you'll run into various kerosene containers in which you can fill your canteen with. If you go to your inventory and select "use" after clicking on the canteen, Chris / Jill will pour kerosene on the zombie and burn it. If you go with this method, I recommend dispatching as many zombies as you can in that spot, as kerosene is very limited, and you can finish off more than one zombie at a time with just one use of the canteen.

2. Exploding their head
If you happen to get an explosive headshot against a zombie, they won't come back as a crimson head. There's no way to assure an explosive headshot with any handguns, and you'll only get an explosive headshot by luck. However with the shotgun, getting an explosive headshot is as easy as aiming up.

3. Avoiding kills
The most insuring way to make sure a zombie doesn't turn into a crimson head is by simply not killing them. It can be hard to avoid killing them in some cases, but if you avoid them, you can save ammunition for something harder than a crimson head.
4. The Importance Of Examining Items
Throughout the game, you'll pick up a large amount of items, ranging from ammunition and herbs to keys and crests. It's very important that you examine items you pick up, because some of these seemingly "random" objects have hidden switches that reveal them to be more than just "random objects".
5. First Aid Basics
Obviously, if you don't tend to your wounds in any game, you'll end up dying, but with most games, you have a percentage or health bar to indicate how close you are to death. Resident Evil / Biohazard is a little different. In this series (with the exception of 4 / 5 / 6), you get a heart monitor that'll either be green with "fine", yellow with "caution", orange with "caution" or red with "danger". Personally, I prefer not to use first aid until reach the orange caution, because using an herb / first aid spray at yellow is just a waste. A single green herb is fine to use at yellow if you're really concerned, but I wouldn't make a habit out of it. If you're in orange caution or danger, I recommend using either a red / green / blue herb mixture (cures 100% of your health and poisoning), a green / green mixture (cures 50% of your health), a green / green / green mixture (cures 100% of your health), red / green mixture (cures 100% of your health) or a first aid spray (cures 100% of your health).

In this title, you can make a variety of different mixed herbs, and here they are below.

Green - cures 25% health
Green / green - cures 50% health
Green / green / green - cures 100% health
Blue - cures poison
Green / blue - cures 25% health and poison
Red - has no use as a stand alone herb
Green / red - cures 100% health
