Notice:

This game only support 4:3 aspect ratio . Selecting a 16:9 resolution will only 'stretch' the image
Launch.exe does not work on the Steam version, preventing you from adjusting the resolution from the default 640x480 so this is a workaround without mess up with files or install something.

Choose 4:3 resolutions if you don't want the game get stretched.

Use -windowed command if image still get stretched.

This will not fix cutscenes. you can use Alone In The Dark TNN Fixes & Cutscenes it has cutscenes that has converted from dreamcast version.

How it works:

1) Right click on game's icon in library -> properties

2) then on general tab -> Set launch option

3) copy and paste any code below and press OK.

resx=1024-resy=768
or
resx=1920 -resy=1200
or
resx=2560 -resy=1600

or replace it with your desire resolution.

You can also try STENCIL x=1920 y=1080 or x=1920 y=1080 if resx didn't work for you.

some common 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions: 640×480, 800×600, 960×720, 1024×768, 1280×960, 1400×1050, 1440×1080, 1600×1200

4) run the game and enjoy.

type -windowed in launch option box. this will run the game in window mode.
I have tested on windows 11 and it works.

Update: I have tested this game on windows 11 and some resolution will not work and game will crash, also fullscreen will minimize game to desktop. Try using -windowed command to run it as window mode or use these setting on alone4.exe:

STENCIL x=1600 y=1200 -windowed

Worked for me perfectly. It's a great resolution if you are on a 1440p monitor. Also use windowed. Don't try to alt + tab from full screen in older games, the mouse usually disappears and you gotta do a restart.

Thanks for this guide. Using these commands as launch parameter and videos appears on screen, but they are bit small. Running on Windows 10. resx=1280 -resy=960 -windowed

Do NOT try to run this game in 16:9. It was designed with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio. I am not sure why people are having issues running this game in Windows 11. I have both the Steam, GoG and even the Original on CD. It runs fine for me however you could try to run it under Windows XP compatibility mode. That is the system it was orignally designed for If I am not mistaken.

I'm on Windows 11 and none of this things worked, thank you for trying to help, but for me none of these solutions work for me. At least i got this game for 0.55 dolars of my Steam account.

This game only support 4:3 aspect ratio . Selecting a 16:9 resolution will only 'stretch' the image.
You can wait for developer to fix or download and install mods... this guide it's not about modding.
