Turning off the "Hold to interact" in the settings can resolve a lot of the issues like this.

you turning and snagging the grenade was oddly hilarious to me

its easier if you dont try and look at it the whole time, aim down, where the item will be at the apex of the jump. when you do it like that you wont need to trace the location and just pick it up at the top of the jump. this has worked for me in pretty much any game with a poorly placed item.
