How to get last "testing squad" achievement

Since the game got unfortunately abandoned (RIP) and I was just missing one achievement and this achievement is otherwise no more to be done (since there is no more testing squad), here is a guide on how to get the achievement.
This involves some kind of binary editing, but this can be done with the editor "Notepad ++".

Since the game got unfortunately abandoned (RIP) and I was just missing one achievement and this achievement is otherwise no more to be done (since there is no more testing squad), here is a guide on how to get the achievement.

This is a "hacky" way. I don't like this but since there is no more possibility to even get this because there is no more testing squad, this doesn't do any harm.

I've tested it and I just got the achievement with this way.
Needed tools
This involves some kind of binary editing, but this can be done with the editor "Notepad ++".

Just download it (if not already done) from https://notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/
Editing 1 (Binary)
  • Go into you Hellion game directory (something like %Steaminstall%\SteamApps\common\HELLION\)
  • Inside here, go into the "Hellion_Data\Managed" subfolder
  • Make a safety copy of the file "Assembly-CShark.dll"
  • Edit this file with Notepad++
Be sure to follow the guide exactly! Otherwise this migh result in a later game crash! If so, restore the original file and try again
  • Search for the string "collection_full_soe_outfit" (without quotes).
    This should be near (quest_heart_of_stone)
  • Replace this string with "other_testing_squad_member" (without quotes)
  • Search for the string "other_testing_squad_member" (without quotes).
    That should be directly behind
  • Replace this string with "collection_full_soe_outfit" (without quotes)
  • Save the file and check that your copy and the new file are still the same size. If not, restore the original file and redo!

What does this do?
This will replace the full son of earth achievement with the testing squad achievement. So the full son of earth achievement will be gathered when you normally would get the testing squad achievement and other way round.
The full son of earth achievement is the only one to be used in replacement, since both achievement strings are equally in length. Otherwise this would lead into a mismatch inside the binary.

Now you only need to equip the full son of earth suit.
If you don't have savegame for this, we can quickly create a savegame for us.
Savegame preparation to get full son of earth equipment
Just start Hellion and a new singleplayer game "rude awakening".
When you are inside the cryo chamber, just do a quick save and exit Hellion again.
Editing 2 (Savegame)
  • Go into the "Hellion_Data\HELLION_SP\" directoy
  • There should be savegame file like "YYYY-MM-DD HH-mm-ss.sav" (get the most actual one)
  • Edit this file with Notepad++
  • Go into the "search an replace" dialogue
  • Search for
    "ItemID": 92,
    and replace with
    "ItemID": 132,
    and press "Replace All"
    This will replace all normal helmets with the son of earth helmet
  • Do the same for the jetpacks with the search
    "ItemID": 93,
    and replace with
    "ItemID": 133,
  • and the same for the suits with the search
    "ItemID": 91,
    and replace with
    "ItemID": 130,

Now just load your game, progress in the story (to grab suit, jetpack and helmet), and the achievement is yours.

What kind of a dick move to leave an achievement that only testers can get and the rest can't activate it for not being testers?

oh wow, this cheaters today.. ^^

you never was and you never will be in testing squad!

AND even if the testingsquad would still be activ, than they would not let you inside, because you have to test the beta version befor release and not just come into the squad to grab the archivment.. ^^

and yes, i'am still inside, because i invested thousend of hours to test and report the testversions. thats why i EARNED the archivment beside a little thx from devs and u did nothing to help to make the game better and want to cheat it..

they should ban you from servers if a ban mechanic would exist ^^

OR, you could just use steam achievment manager....
