Madeley Road - Silverdale Colliery Line

Updated 26/05/2020. The scenery around Silverdale has been completed and the line resignalled. There are now also speed signs. Route completed.

The line from Madeley - Silverdale opened in 1870 and was part of the route between Market Drayton and Stoke-on-Trent. Originally this was a passenger route and later closed to traffic in 1931. The line was later used throughout the 1960s-1990s as a freight route between Madeley Road and Silverdale Colliery by British Rail/EWS. Madeley Road has a direct connection to the West Coast Mainline between Stafford and Crewe.

Since closure in 1998 the line remains abandoned with most of the trackwork still in place. This route represents the route in the mid 1990s just before closure. The section in use at the time covered about 5 miles.
