How To Re-Enable Addons For Versus

Back in November 2018, Valve has released an update that disabled all addons in all versus game-modes (except for custom campaigns) and in every Official Dedicated server they run. This is a huge problem for custom versus mutations primarily because it counts as an addon, which causes crashes for Community Dedicated servers and an Engine Error CTD when starting a Local Server (due to "reaching the VPK limit" when this is obviously not the case). Fortunately, this guide will explain how to remedy the restriction.

- (Local Servers) Locate and open "addonconfig.cfg" in "Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/cfg".

- (Community Dedicated Servers) Locate and open "addonconfig.cfg" in "<your server directory>/left4dead2/cfg"

- Change all "RestrictAddons" values to 0

- Save changes and enjoy hosting your local versus server.

While official dedicated servers run by valve will never have this change, community official dedicated servers can. Of course, you can always just host a local server.

Used this guide once, can't believe I use it again twice. Thanks again one more time. I just install the game on new PC and wondering what am i missing to enable the mods.

@Scout community dedicated servers are usually used when an official one cant be found. It gives you the message as soon as it fails to find an official server (usually happens on addon maps)

1. Open L4d2 MAIN folder (browse local files for easy shortcut to it)
2. Open left 4 dead 2 folder (this one’s inside already)
3. Addonconfig folder (CFG
4. Open with notepad (or whatever program that can edit the file)
