Preparing for battle
Before you head into battle you'll have to chose who to attack, with what and who lead the battle, it's very important.

Here's the main actions you have and you can listen to what the commanders have to say or directly take your own actions:

Pick up your target:

When you select what planet you want to attack be sure that they don't have a lot of forts because they can be a problem, they don't move but they can get in the way, the same goes when you defend and you have forts, if they have a lot of units this can also be a problem even if your main objective will be to destroy the unit that guard the main planet so you won't need to destroy all ennemy unit, since you'll want to not lose any unit better check the ennemy forces first.

Reduce ennemy forts:

You can do that by sending a commander to sabotage the place you want to attack, but this will cost you a week. The commander will gain prestige and such but such actions cost money (1000 gold)

Check your commanders:

Commanders are important, they have special abilities and based by their leadership they will be able to command more units wich mean you'll have more firepower, it also affects the cost of units you build and sabotage, for abilities some can even deal more damage to a specific faction and they all have a different commander power.

Politics affect the cost of building forts and the cost of studying technology, do note that when a commander must take an action during the week (Sabotage, research, building forts, exploration, improving a system/world) it won't be available if you want to deploy that commander on defense.

Review your units:

Checking your units to see what are the way to counter the ennemy is very important, against aliens you'll definitly want a unit to remove status effects and against pirates you may need it if a unit is on fire, so knowing what your units can do means you'll have more options to make the perfect plan.

"Infantry" unit can capture ennemy untis other than aliens, when ennemies have low health you can try to capture them.

Checking the battlefield:

It's important to use the terrain to your advantage, if you place a unit in the asteroid field they will get a bonus at evading but it's hard to move there, battleships and such can't go there.

If you move a unit to a planet they will get supllies and be repaired, so they get healed and regain energy by a % displayed. (check bottom left corner)

Once you take out the unit that guard the ennemy planet you have won, if you defend you must destroy all units or last 20 turns.

And here's how to win.
Fighting tips.
Alright you'll figure out how power is your health and how energy is used during battle, what you must know is that depending of where you attack you will gain an advantage in battle or be at a disadvantage.

Here's what you can do:
- If you attack a unit to the front you gain no bonus.
- If you flank them (attack them from the side) you'll gain a bonus in aim
- If you attack them from the back you gain a bonus in aim AND they can't counterattack
- If you outrange an ennemy they can't counterattack of course

This sounds great right ? Well the ennemy can also benefit from these positions so watch your back.

You can also check the stats of an ennemy unit by clicking on it, this help a lot.

Knowing all that try not to lose any unit and kill the ennemy as fast as you can when they engage you.
It's important because your units level up wich mean they get stronger and AFAIK the highest level is level 6.

You have 20 turns to complete an attack so take your time and of course have a unit that can repair/ressuply your units (repair only remove status effect) and if you want to regain your health/energy place a unit on a planet.

I hope that this guide help you, do note that english is not my first language and that this is my first guide.
