[Guide] How to 'freeze' sequences in Source Filmmaker

While it's generally frowned upon by the community to use a sequence as a pose for a poster, sometimes using that as a 'base' for a pose is generally viewed as ok, so long as the sequence pose has been altered sufficiently.
With that being said, I've seen a lot of posts lately on the Steam SFM discussions asking how to 'freeze' a certain pose from a sequence, in this guide, I will show you how to do that.

Step-by-step Guide
Before you begin, make sure that you already have an idea of what pose that you want to work with.
This will make things so much easier if you already know that you want a pose of the scout in 'mid-laugh', as an example.

  1. Spawn your model.
    In this example, I'll be using the hwm\scout.mdl, but the process is the same for any model that has sequences built in.

  2. Select the scout in the animation set editor and right-click, then select 'Import', then 'Sequence'.

    Locate the sequence that you want to use, select it and click 'Ok'.
    In this example, I'll be using 'taunt_laugh'.

  3. Press the enter key to confirm the sequence.
    The motion editor will turn green indicating that the sequence has been applied.

  4. Scrub the playhead forward or click the Play button to find the exact spot in the sequence that you want to 'freeze'. Once there, select the entire scout model.

  5. Drag the Playhead preset slider all of the way to the right.

  6. If you are satisfied with that pose, hit the enter key to confirm. If not, repeat the process from step 3 until you have the pose that you are looking for.

  7. Congratulations!! You've just frozen a pose from a sequence!

ohhhh, sequences are like animations? i thought it was the video. my first poster was posed hand by hand

@soot - You can either use a sequence as a base for a poster or, as many of us do, pose the model by hand.

how are you supposed to make posters without a sequence? are there other types of sfm files? i am very new (only like 2 hours)

If anyone else got confused on Step #5 like I did, the OP is talking about the column of words to the left of the laughing Scout, and to the left of the tall black rectangle. There's a bunch of words that read Default, Zero, Half, One.
He's talking about the word "Playhead," right underneath One. You click and drag on that word and go right; you'll see the word fill up with light gray. Then just let go when it's filled up.

Then you continue with the rest of his guide.

@Simon Henriksson - No, you will not die, it's frowned upon for a completed poster, but as I stated above, when used as a 'base' for an altered pose, it's generally ok to do.
