Overview
[This is a simple black and white edit I made using Jeff the Killer art that belongs to Lasky111 on DeviantArt. Make sure to check them out !]

The Rogue would be a Stealth-type killer, those killers who may not be the strongest in the meta, but who are definitely the best at giving survivors spine chills. His Power is somewhat similar to the Shape's and the Pig's, because he combines aspects of both those Killers but still has unique abilities of his own.

It is hard to evaluate exactly how strong the Rogue would be in the meta, but I can picture him as a Middle-tier killer, lower than the Huntress or the Nurse but higher than the Trapper or the Cannibal.
I imagined a story for him but because it is long and somewhat unoriginal I eventually chose not to put it and put the focus on the gameplay aspects instead.

Properties
  • Speed : 115 %
  • Terror Radius : 20 metres
  • Normal weapon range.
  • Slightly shorter lunge.
  • Small silhouette.

Now, what's his power exactly ? Step closer to the Campfire, and let me tell you more about it...
Power
The Rogue's power is named Whisper of Death.

It can be used when looking directly at a survivor further then 12 metres from the Rogue, requiring line of sight on the Survivor. When triggered, the targeted survivor is warned by a sound and briefly sees the Rogue's eye on his screen. The effect lasts for 30 seconds, during which :
  • The Rogue's Terror Radius is set to 0 for the targeted Survivor.
  • The Stain disappears.
  • The targeted Survivor is Exposed.
  • The Rogue appears slightly darker.
  • All detection and Aura-reading Perks do not work on the Killer.
Whisper of Death can affect multiple Survivors if they are very close to one another. When engaging a chase with a survivor under Whisper of Death's effect, the effect will go away after 10 seconds instead. If multiple Survivors were affected, the effect is removed for every other Survivor too, because the surprise is gone at this point. Whisper of Death can also be used through walls if the Killer can see the Survivor's Aura. In this case, nearby other Survivors are only affected if their Aura is also visible.

After the effect goes away on Survivors, the Power has a 10-seconds cooldown before it can be used again. It cannot be used during chases.

As a secondary (but powerful) ability, Whisper of Death also allows the Rogue to crouch and move stealthily around the map like the Pig :
  • The Rogue moves slightly faster than the Pig, at a speed of 100 % instead of 92 %.
  • Just like the Pig, his Terror Radius is set to 0 for everyone.
  • The Rogue does not have access to Ambush Attack, instead he can attempt to Assassinate Survivors.
Assassination requires the Survivor to be right next to the Rogue, approximately standing within weapon range. When used, the Rogue grabs the Survivor and both characters are quickly faced (after half a second) with a Skill Check that has its Good area lowered by 50 %. The result depends on how both the Survivor and the Killer perform :
Example : if the Killer suceeds a Great Skill Check and the Survivor a Good one, the Killer's "score" will be +1.
  • [-2] The Survivor escapes and the Killer is stunned for 4 seconds.
  • [-1] Same as [-2] but the Killer is stunned for only 2 seconds.
  • [0] The Survivor is hurt and can escape if they're not in the Dying State. The Killer has a successful hit animation cooldown.
  • [+1] Same as [0] but the Survivor is put in the Dying State.
  • [+2] This exceptional score rewards the Killer by triggering a special animation during which the Rogue directly kills the Survivor.
  • [+3] Same as [+2] but the animation is different and even faster.
The +3 score is only possible when the Survivor is affected by Whisper of Death, which grants a +1 bonus to the Killer's score.

Whisper of Death ressembles the Shape's Power in that it triggers Exposed state on Survivors relying mostly on stealth, but the way it works is different. It is also similar to the Pig, being able to crouch in a similar way and also having access to an alternative way of killing Survivors without requiring Perks or a Mori.

Perks
Hex: Night Walker
You are at your best in the darkness of the night, and the Entity has fulfilled your desire. The Moon appears slightly/moderately/tremendously darker, and your Terror Radius is lowered by 4/5/6 metres at all times. The Hex effects persist as long as the related Hex Totem is standing. When it is cleansed, all effects wear out, but you instead get a passive 3/4/5% speed bonus. That bonus decreases by 2% every time you manage to down a Survivor until it eventually wears out.
"We are nothing but blind preys in the darkness of the night."

Hunter's Eye
The Entity has enhanced your precise sight, granting you unmatched detection skills. At any time, press the Special Ability key to scan an area in a 30/40/50° cone in front of you, up to 12/18/24 metres ahead of you. Any Survivor in that area has their Aura revealed to you for 3 seconds. Hunter's Eye has a 60 seconds cooldown if it successfully revealed any Survivor, 30 seconds otherwise.
"No one can hide from his bloodthirsty eye."

Fast Learner
You start the trial with -10% action speed when vaulting, breaking pallets and generators, picking up, and hooking Survivors. Whenever you perform one of these actions, you get a passive +5/6/7% action speed bonus for the next time you do it, capped at +15/+20/+25% in total. Vaulting speed only increases when performed during a chase.
"The more he chased us, the more his perverted mind seemed to enjoy this bloody game."

Balance
Pros
  • Much like the Hag, the Rogue has a relatively small silhouette which makes him harder to see for Survivors.
  • The Rogue has access to a One-Shot ability which is never something to underestimate.
  • The Rogue has exceptional synergy with Aura-reading Perks, which no other Killer in the game currently have.
  • Because the survivors know they are Exposed when under Whisper of Death's effect, it can also be used as a distraction of some sort, pressuring them into stopping what they are currently doing.
  • Many strategies are viable to get the best out Whisper of Death's Exposed effect.
  • The Rogue spares a lot of chasing time when he successfully downs a Survivor using Whisper of Death.
  • In bad situations, the Rogue can camp while being crouched to counter Borrowed Time.
  • Assassination is a situational ability that also requires a good amount of skill, but it can be incredibly powerful if you manage to kill a Survivor using it.
  • The Rogue can interrupt hook saves with Assassination.

    Cons
  • The Rogue has no map control whatsoever and cannot travel the map fast like most Top-tier Killers can.
  • The Rogue is effectively the worst Killer in the game when it comes to chasing, having no ability whatsoever to help him in this situation.
  • The Rogue's Power is useless if Survivors can see him before he gets close enough.
  • The Rogue heavily relies on Stealth to turn the game in his favour, meaning he has no other tricks up his sleeves against wary Survivors.
  • After even one Survivor has spotted the Rogue, all Survivors will be aware of the Rogue's presence and therefore watch their back to avoid being caught off-guard, which is exactly what will counter the Rogue.
  • The Rogue performs terrible in very open areas that have few obstacles to hide behind.
Appearance
The Rogue is freely inspired by Jeff the Killer from the creepypasta, however he would not exactly look the same because the white color would make him very easy to spot from afar...

He would be relatively small and have normal tan instead of white skin, but his face would be for the most obscured by dark hair so it doesn't stand out too much in the environment. He'd wear a dark black leather jacket that would be stealthy in the dark and simple, black jeans with dark-grey sports shoes.

Weapon
The Rogue's base weapon would be a kitchen knife, pretty similar to the Shape's. But because he's a knife enthusiast, he could also have other types of knives as alternate weapons or cosmetics : military knife, foldable knife, butterfly knife, etc.

Feel free to give me your opinions in the comments section ! Any support or criticism is welcome so that I can improve the balance or reflect on your opinion to improve the concept (and myself !).

Yes, that's pretty much the point ! The downside of the Power is not it is not so consistent because it partly depends on circumstances, but it's also an upside because you can get a lot of value out of it it you plan it out well.

Introducing add-ons ! most of them grant passive bonuses that help the Rogue compensate for his lack of chase tools.
