Well you have ronin, and the yari ronin is a mix of yari sam and nagi sam with no weaknesses. If you are in a mp game with a pal, you can trade units. I do this, trade good ikko units for samurai, since upgraded Kaga loan swords are very strong and only 45 to support a turn. The computer also really likes bow ronin for auto resolve, for some reason.
I've played Ikko a lot, and they have a lot of strengths. The only think I don't like about them is they don't get metsuke.
