Thanks @MayheM7!! I had made things harder for myself by trying to create a separate folder for managing the mod files. They work much better accessed directly from downloads folder/then Desktop

After I booted up the game outside of steam, created an in-game User Profile (like you said), which preserved my settings in STEAM

@LonePaladin and @Keksut: MalwareBytes is know for false flagging of files that alter game files (mods). The mod doesn't install malware or banners or anything else. The installer is old and not the best of its kind. Most likely that's what triggers MalwareBytes, but there is no 'shenanigans' in it.

@DrMeloD, I haven't seen that error myself, so I can only guess here.

Try it using a different Windows user profile. Just create one if you don't have another already.
That way the app shouldn't even be able to detect Steam.

I was able to get the PATCH to install, but not the KillerMod App. Once extracted, every time I run the app "Cannot Run While Steam is Open" ...but, it is not running. I closed, restarted, even confirmed through task manager. KillerMod App refuses to run, please help. I am on Windows 10

@MayheM7 No, seriously, the site you linked to is popping up warnings from MalwareBytes, not some fly-by-night bug scanner. It's likely some sort of banner they have running that's attempting shenanigans.

Consider directing people to the game's entry on pcgamingwiki.com , it has links to the patch, the Killer App Mod, plus the User Error and Complete Map Pack mods. Or, if you want, I can just post those links here and you can just copy-paste them.

@Tronnus. No it doesn't. Upgrade to a working scanner. Your current one CLEARLY doesn't do a propper job.

lol OP scan your system! The mod places malware into system32, either you are not aware of it or you are in on it.
