Town assault: Pull back on an elevated position and wait -> win
Town defense: Advance to an elevated position and wait -> win
As the AI will just run into you by default (sometimes straight, sometimes flanking) just being elevated and having a mix of rifles and assault rifles just insta wins everything, including town assaults.

It would be nice if you could take a city without entering FPS mode. It seems (unfortunately) mandatory to snipe off as many enemies as possible to thin the herd before sending in your troops. This needs balancing. Playing FPS mode should be optional not mandatory IMO.
