Christianity in Shogun 2 offers some very good buffs to your clan, but it also comes with some debuffs. This guide will tell you how you can convert to christianity the easiest way possible, but firsrt some basic information on christianity and what it offers and what it takes away from the player.

Pros:
1. You get access to missionary agent, which can cause rebellions in rival clan provinces and convert them to christianity.

2. You get access to the imported matchlock ashigaru, European cannons and Nanban trade ships.

3. You can build the Nanban Trade Port.

Cons:
1. You suffer unrest penalty in your provinces and conquered provinces will be harder to pacify.

2. Rival clans will dislike you more.

3. You lose the ability to recruit monk warriors and monk heroes.


If you are up to the challenge of playing as a christian daimyo, want to use the gunpowder units it offers or you are just hunting for the achievements that christian daimyos can get, continue to the second part of this guide.

When you begin your campaign on Shogun 2 pretty much every Clan follows the Shinto Buddhism religion, with the notable exception of the Ikko-Ikki warrior Monks who practice Ikko. Only few clans on the Kyushu island such as the Otomo, start out with Christianity as their religion. In order to speed up the process of adopting Christianity yourself, you must make your way to the Kyushu island. Shown on the map below, it is the western most part of Japan.



After starting a new campaign, begin building a small fleet. Few small bow kobaya's are enough, as long as it can carry a full stack of units from your starting region in to the Kyushu island. Remember to first make sure that your home provinces are safe before your start your journey to west. It is advisable to be at peace with as many clans as possible to avoid your fleet carrying your army be sinked and to avoid a rebellion or enemy clan conquering your home province.

After making few ships and putting an army inside it, make your way to Kyushu.

There is two good places where to land your army:

1. Bungo Province. It starts out with a Nanban port!

2. Tsukushi. Nothing special here, except that it should have less troops and majority christian population.

Before landing, remember to declare war on the clan that currently resides in either of the provinces. I suggest to take Bungo, but if strong clan such as the Chosobake have invaded it before you, I suggest you take Tsukushi and build up your army there first.

After you have succesfully taken any of the provinces in Kyushu, you must wait few turns. On the meantime, you may invade other provinces of Kyushu that have christian population.

After waiting couple turns on your newly conquered provinces, an event should pop up. Picture of the event on the left.

The event happens if your provinces have christianity in them or you control the Nanban port of Bungo or your provinces get influenced by neighboring christian provinces.

Remember that this process may take some turns, so don't smash your keyboard if the event has not yet happened to you even after you played a couple turns. You must let your provinces to get influenced by the Christian faith. The only way to speed up the process is by conquering all the christian provinces on Kyushu so that your clans contact with Christianity is maximized.

When the event has triggered, you should be able to convert to Christianity. Remember to prepare your clan before you convert so that some rebellions or wars won't come as surprises to you.

Here is the simple steps on how to convert:

1. Go to your Clan Management page, it is right under the Diplomacy tab on the lower right corner from where you click 'next turn'.

2. Click 'Family and Council' in the clan management menu.

3. Convert religion option should have now appeared on the left. Click it and your clan adopts Christianity!

When successful, a new event should pop up right after, telling you off the successful conversion to christianity! Now your clan is able to build christian buildings, recruit missionaries, imported matchlock ashigaru, european cannons and nanban trade ships. Also, you can now earn the two christian daimyo-only achievements:

One Rule Under God
Win campaign as a Christian Daimyo.

Servant of God
Obtain a maximum level missionary.

Both of the achievements will also award you armor pieces for your general in Avatar Conquest.
