Grim Dawn: Ashes of Malmouth is the first expansion for Grim Dawn, and it adds two new classes: the Necromancer and the Inquisitor. In this series we'll play a Necromancer through the expanded storyline, and see what this skeleton summoning class has to offer. Because there are two new acts to the storyline, I'm not going to play this one on hardcore. In the course of the series, I'm going to show you different Necromancer varations as well.

Build outline

We summon an army of skeletons, some additional pets, and try to keep them alive using our utility skills. In the series I try many skills, and even after recording the final episode I changed the skill tree a bit to reduce the number of active skills to juggle.

This build will focus on getting an army of skeletons out to do damage, and summoning a couple of high-health, low-damage minions as distractions on the side. We try to strip enemies of vitality resistance, so our skeletons can inflict even more (vitality) damage. An assortment of utility skills and auras will help us stay alive, and boosts our minions'damage.

For gear, we'll have to see. Caster armour is probably useful given that we don't want to tank. For weapons, a caster weapon and offhand are appropriate.

Second class

We'll go with Shaman, for it complements our Necromancer focus on vitality damage and minions, but has better survival tools.

Devotion Tree

There's a couple of new Devotion Constellations, and they are perfect for a vitality minions Necromancer. Typhos, Jailer of Souls and Rattosh, the Veilwarden are both very good at boosting minion vitality damage.

- 5 pts, Shepherd's Crook: health, minion health, minion damage proc (1 purple, gives 5 purple)
- 1 pt, Red starter
- 3 pts, Jackal: minion offense, damage (1 red, gives 3 red)
- Refund red starter (-1 pt)
- 1 pt, White starter
- 3 pts, Lion: health, player+pet dmg (1 white, gives 3 white)
- Refund White starter (-1 pt)
- 6 pts, Typhos, Jailor of Souls: player & pet vitality damage (6 purple, 3 white, 3 red; gives 2 purple, 2 white)
- Total: 18 pts, 7 purple, 5 white, 3 red

- Refund purple starter (-1 pt)
- 1 pt, Green starter
- 4 pts Raven: pet damage (1 green, gives 5 green)
- Refund green starter (-1 pt)
- 5 pts, Bat: vitality/bleed damage, leech proc (1 green, gives 2 red, 3 green)
- 5 pts, Bysmiel's Bond: pet buffs, summon proc (6 green, 4 red, gives 3 green)
- 1 pt, White starter
- 1 pt, Red starter
- 6 pts, Rattosh, Veilwarden: player+pet vitality damage, vitality res reduction proc (10 green, 6 red, 6 white)
- Total: 39 pts, 7 purple, 6 white, 6 red, 11 green)

- 5 pts, Tortoise: defense, health, dmg absorption proc (1 white, gives 2 white, 3 blue)
- 4 pts, Gallows: vitality damage (1 blue, gives 5 blue)
- 6 pts, Wendigo: vitality damage, health, leech proc (6 blue, 4 red, gives 2 red)
- Refund red starter (-1 pt)
- Refund White starter (-1 pt)
- Last 3 pts into Crab to get Arcane Barrier
- Total 55 pts
