RL Guide to Basic Positioning/Rotation (3v3s)
By fishhr^
Basically I will be describing how proper rotation should work in every position and how to get a better and easier understanding of this topic. This is because I believe, after being banned for abusive text in solo standard, I don't think mid-level players are playing to their full potential when easy changes can be made to adjust their play. I am a high champion 2 level player with slight pro competitive experience and hope I can help out. :)

Basic Attacking Rotation
Describes the forward attacking rotation to sustain pressure:

Basically, you want to always be aiming for a triangle shape with your teammates and keep rotating in behind the next player to hit the ball to cover if anything happens. While this occurs the third player should be in the wider space but not to far or it will expose and easy boomer goal between your rotation. I like to think of it as covering your friends back to if he loses the ball there is always a player ready behind to push it again in which the third player would come behind him and the first player that issed would take the central, wider position. If both players on that side get beat the third player should also be ready to cut behind to defense and hold up the attack for his team to get back. Now otherwise if the first attacking player manages to push his lane and put the ball past the first defender(s), then the wide third should go for a decent shot or wait for a pass or even pressure a defender in control depending on circumstance. The second player behind the guy who centered the ball should then push through that lane if the third decides not to press the defender, then the first player should rotate through (aiming to take the oppositions boost) and take the third man's spot. If this contines smoothly and correctly this should heavily pressure the defense in which only strong, well rotating defenders might be able to break your attack.

Feedback is useful and this is my first small guide so I would also like to know if I should continue to explain other concepts and more advanced ways to play RL. Thank you for reading this section of my guide,

Basic Defensive Rotation
Describes the intense defensive rotation to release pressure:

Pretty much the key to defensive rotation is being aware. This is because when a ball goes high and looks scary to you and your silver friends it is VERY easy to just jump and try to save it. However literally your whole team might jump straight up for that and could leave an open goal if cleared near an attacker. Defensive rotation is very strict and has important consequences if not executed correctly which is also why attacking demoes are so strong in opening a shot for your teammate. What you want to do when you are on the end of the boot is to look around your teammates and hold a near straight line across your goal depending on what's happening. What you ideally want is a first defender closest to the ball challenging and trying to win a solid 50/50 or even clear, behind him/her should be the second defender which will usually be first post if the ball is coming from the side or on a strong spot on the ground when you are being attacked from the front. What I mean by a strong spot is somewhere 3/4 way along the goal line where you can easily back up to traverse the small area if it is shot at or you can quickly boost across the other side of the goal if the shot is across the goal. Here is where your awareness is important because the third player is going to be behind the second defender on the far post if the ball is coming from the other corner and he should be ready to cover the second defender if he forces a move from the attacker by challenging. He should also be just apart from the post that he can aerial or go up the wall if necessary. HOWEVER if the attack is coming from the front face of the goal, this third defender should be ready ON THE BACKBOARD or ON THE SIDE WALL opposite to the second defender's position to cover as much of the goal as huma-... car-ly possible. Ths is to prevent and easily clear high balls or be able to come down on hard to reach corners for the second defender. While this is happening the first defender should already be rotating across trying to challenge or go across for boost in behind the third defender or second. This should keep carefully challenging and rotating across the face of your goal and 18-yard box area until enough boost is collected for a solid clear or control of the ball is acquired.

Feedback is useful and this is my first small guide so I would also like to know if I should continue to explain other concepts and more advanced ways to play RL. Thank you for reading this section of my guide,

Midfield Pressure in Defense and Attack
Describes midfield distribution and pressure with or without the ball:

With the Ball-
Essentially, what you want is a good spread across the middle and stretch into the back and front of the field, but keep it staggered with your team. When a player on the left, for example, has the ball he should be looking for either a solid push down the sideline or a solid pass in-field or across to his teammates. Therefore the teammates have to be ready with one teammate slightly farther back behind in case he loses the ball or weaky puts it center in which you can push that and leave the far player to the right to rotate behind and cover you. If the player on the side sees the far pass, then the far player should be almost on the same line as the left side player but slightly ahead so he can see him AND so he can pass it forward with more momentum. If this happens that far player should be ready to redirect it at goal or near goal to commence good pressure and start a solid attacking rotation.
Although, if the ball is already central and the center player is in control there should be an option farther up to one side of him and a player not too close behind him but off to the side in case he lose the ball in that center position which is EXTREMELY dangerous and could easily go from a simple mistake to an easy goal for the opposition.

Without the Ball-
A man component to holding a line before being in complete defense without the ball in the midfield is to almost always have a player pressuring the opposition's ball control. The best defense is solid pressure to minimize any big chances the other team has to passing or pressing with the ball. A basic 3-man hold for this is a good spread of 1 pushed up player pressuring the ball, 1 player either slightly behind him or behind him and in the center, and the last player on the same line as the first player facing the back for a quick rotation if necessary to continue holding the pressure. A very important step to this is making sure your teammates know when you are the one pressing because an overcommit can be VERY costly when a 3v1 occurs in the midfield where the attackers have more space then a close quarter 3v1 closer to the front of goal.
