"I keep trail cams out all year... and in 2012.... this buck was on my hit list. I had named him elephant man cuz he had a couple nubby stickerish points growing out of his right antler. He had very uniquely shaped mainbeams as well. I had pics of this buck for all of June and July and August on 2 adjacent farms I had permission to hunt at the time. One was a small 40 acre farm half crp and half mixed pine and hardwoods with lots of persimmon trees. The adjacent farm was 80 acres with a pond and several persimmon and paw paw trees and it had about 20 acres that was a grew up spruce christmas tree patch in the center... with 2 small patches of hardwoods just loaded with persimmons and the rest was field planted in soy beans. It was a great place to hunt... but was hunted hard on bordering properties by very successful meat only hunters that shot everything with 4 legs... so u never hardly seen big bucks here and I had hunted it for years. I was surprised to get the pics i got of this buck... and for 3 months got well over 100 pics of him and actually seen him with my own eyes atleast 3 times getting video on my cam corder 2 of those times. When Indiana's archery season started october 1st of 2012 I went hunting on another farm. Indiana for the first time that year let you use a crossbow in early bow season even if you weren't handicapped. So i just wanted a good vid of a doe kill and some meat with my new bowtech stryker strykezone 380 crossbow. The 1st day of october... opening day... indiana's 1st day of allowing legal use of crossbow in october ever.... i self filmed myself dropping a doe with my crossbow while I was hanging from a tree in my tree saddle. Day 2... october 2nd I seen a lot of deer on the other farm and planned out my hunt for the next day. Day 3... October 3rd I got out of work... got scent free... headed out to that farm again were Elephant Man lurked. I had a blind set out in the spruce christmas tree pine thicket where I had most of his pics. I was tired and slept inside blind beside one of my trail cams. Around 2pm I woke up and decided I'd head over to the corner of the field where I seen several deer standing in the distance the evening before right before dark but could not tell if they sported any antlers or not. I left the blind and had my tree saddle and some screw in steps and walked to the tree I planned on sitting in. I already had steps in the tree but had taken the bottom 5 out... so I screwed them back in and climbed up and hung in tree from my tree saddle. About 1 hour before dark I could see a deer across the field!! It was Elephant man!! I started filming him with a camera I had mounted on my crossbow and the buck started in field about 350 yards away... and somehow came right to me getting 15 yards from my tree and I smoked him!! He ran about 50 yards and piled up in a crp field right on the other side of my tree! Got it all on film! This was one of the best moments in my hunting career I had ever had!"
