A How To on the HillBilly
By Omnath
Hello everyone, today I decided to make a guide on the HillBilly killer featured in the game Dead By Daylight. I really enjoy playing as this killer as I am by far higher skilled with this killer than any other. I believe the HillBilly is one of the fastest and most powerful killers of the game if you know how to use him. In this guide I am going to outline simple gameplay mechanics, strategies, perk, and most of all, a few secrets on how to play better as the HillBilly.

HillBilly Mechanics
The HillBilly is a default killer whom was released to every player in the game without the need of DLC or extra downloads. The HillBilly's weapon of choice is the chainsaw which can trigger a dying state upon contact with the survivor, hence the reason people who are extremely good with the HillBilly rarely use the hammer, and focus on just one hitting survivors.

The HillBilly is considered an early game killer whereas the Trapper is considered more of a late game killer since he spends the early game placing traps in certain areas. The reason the HillBilly is so powerful is that he doesn't waste time finding survivors, his chainsaw can be implemented in many special ways to help him achieve his merciless victory. The HillBilly also is a killer without reduced movement speed unlike the nurse and huntress and tier 1 micheal (who have reduced speed). This means that the HillBily doesn't necisarily have to use his chainsaw to murder his victims.
HillBilly Strategies
The HillBilly's special power (the chainsaw) gives him a certain edge upon survivors that not many kilers know about. First of, if you are new, or if you are a pro (much more common among more advanced players), you will see that they use their chainsaw, not to kil survivors, but to move around the map. Handling the movement of the chainsaw is difficult, but will become easier the longer you play.

In addition to that, the chainsaw can be used to shred pallets, much faster than Brutal Strength III, but keep in mind, if you are too close to the pallet, you will instead be penalized for bumping into an object, not sure if this is a bug on the hitboxes or intended. The only part about shredding pallets that can be tricky is how to gage your charge up without letting the survivor on the other side of the pallet run away. Again, this is another technique that can be put to good use, but it takes time to master. What I do is start charging up the chainsaw, but do not stand in the same place looking at the pallet, I move around (while still charging) to try and prevent the survivor from just running away, then once the chainsaw is fully charged, I just smash that pallet down, leaving the survivor exposed and the gap between me and the survivor a little shorter.

Last but not least, you must learn to use a chainsaw to down a survivor, which is the most common use for such a tool. Most HillBilly's will try to get as close to you as possible, then start revving the chainsaw up your ass. Many survivors will try to juke you out upon revving the chainsaw, which (one more time) takes time to master until you can stick to them even while they juke, ensuring you the kill.
HillBilly Perks
What Perks should I run? This is a very common question on every single killer. Now there are some simple answers, like 99% of people who play Trapper should be running Brutal Strength, and 99% of Nurses should be running Nurses Calling. Simple as that. With the Hill Billy however, it can vary, but I would say to always run Tinkerer and some kind of add-on. The power you recieve from tinkerer is very much worth getting it to tier III.

For the other perk slots you can kind of pick and chose, but I heavily advise you to get Deerstalker in one of those slots, with Deerstalker, you can down a survivor and not have to immediately pick him up, especially if you run Nurses Calling in combination with Deerstalker, this gives you the ability to down someone and chase after someone else if you see them running away. You can choose to run any other perk in the 4th slot, I would run Agitation for body transport, but that is just me.
HillBilly Secrets
These may not be secrets to all of you, but they can help a ton. First one has to do with the sound of the chainsaw. The reason every survivor can hear the chainsaw in the distance has to do with the Lore behind the HillBilly and how everyone can hear a chainsaw when they go to the Coldwind Farm. The big thing though is you actually cannot tell if the HillBilly is chainsawwing towards you until you hear the heart beat. This can be used to the HillBilly's advantage because if you are behind a survivor, you can chainsaw them down if they do not check their 6.

The only other critical factor I would have to add besides that is that the HillBilly can chainsaw through windows. Again, not sure if this is a hitbox bug or intentional, but if a survivor is about to complete their vault (meaning they are on the other side of the window) you can sometimes land a hit on them. Now, more experienced survivors won't go for the window and will try to juke you, but if they do, you may get a cheeky down on them.

Thanks for reading and I hope you all enjoyed this guide, and goodluck playing as the HillBilly!
