VPE Precepts

Description
Overview
Psycast Precepts for VPE adds Ideology-style control to Vanilla Psycasts Expanded. Pick which psycast paths your colony believes in. Paths without a matching precept show as Locked: Ideology; paths you approve behave normally. If you use no psycast precepts, VPE works exactly as vanilla VPE (original lock reasons show).

Key Features
- Colony-controlled psycasts: Gate each psycast path behind a simple Ideology precept.
- Clear feedback: Disallowed paths say Locked: Ideology; allowed paths and default VPE locks display as usual.
- Drop-in friendly: No micro-management; just choose precepts.
- Dogmatic option: A stricter precept that limits psycasts to approved paths only.
- Optional storyteller spawns: Toggle a setting that lets all storytellers spawn psycaster NPCs like VPE’s Basilicus Bestower.

How it works (simple)
Choose psycast precepts in your ideology. Pawns can unlock and use paths you’ve approved. If a path isn’t approved, it’s shown as locked by ideology. If you picked no psycast precepts at all, nothing changes—VPE behaves like normal.

Settings
Storyteller psycasters: Enable the option to allow any storyteller to create psycaster events similar to Basilicus Bestower.
• Settings are found in the mod options menu and can be changed mid-save.

Compatibility
• Works with existing saves (adding/removing is generally safe; removing mid-run may revert path access to VPE’s defaults).
• UI/tooltip mods: should be fine.
• Other psycast mods: Should work with other modded VPE-style psycast paths.

Performance
Lightweight Harmony patches; no constant ticking. Only checks when the psycast UI/logic needs it.

FAQ
Q: I don’t pick any psycast precepts. What happens?
A: Then nothing changes—VPE shows its normal lock reasons and rules.
Q: Can I start strict and relax later?
A: Yes. Change precepts the usual Ideology ways; the UI updates accordingly.
Q: Do I need Basilicus Bestower to get psycaster NPCs?
A: No—enable the storyteller setting to allow any storyteller to spawn psycasters similarly.

I already self-enforce psytrainers being the only way to learn new skills, alongside the retexture that makes them spellbooks. I think this will allow me to lock all other paths with ideology, pretty neat.

As an aside, since you're doing psycaster QoL stuff there's one small grievance I've always had with full psycasters - not being able to tell what type of caster a pawn spawned as without recruiting them.

Downloading almost solely for the storyteller change, lol

I'm also curious how a psycasting colony of just one type will go so thanks for the playthrough idea :MHRISE_OK:
