Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide were games that I would call, "so bad they were good." A mess of disjointed themes, horrible feeling gameplay, comical amounts of what can only be described as "tone deaf-ness." But despite all of that I still think they're fun. Dead Island 2 however, completely nailed everything the first two games failed at. The game is addicting, an incredibly fun gameplay loop of making a build of your character and weapons, using hand to hand combat, alot of what dying light is so popular for. And the game is fittingly silly, but serious where it needs to be. The characters are great, the game is fun and funny, I couldn't have asked for a better game. After a decade, I can finally say it was worth the wait.
