Dying Light 2 Review: No Nostalgia, Just Honest Thoughts

I don’t usually write reviews, but after finishing Dying Light 2, I felt like I had to share my thoughts since I see that the reviews are mostly positive, and while I get it, I think it’s worth hearing from someone who just wrapped up Dying Light 1—no nostalgia here.

Parkour: A Whole New Level
First off, the parkour. Dying Light 2 absolutely crushes it in this department. The movement is smooth, fluid, and super fun. It’s one of those things that gets so addictive you could easily waste hours just jumping around the city. At first, I wasn’t into holding space to jump higher, but it grew on me, and once you unlock more abilities, it all clicks. I finished the main story already, but I’m still doing side missions just to keep parkouring around. It’s that fun. 9.5/10.

Atmosphere & Graphics: Jaw Dropping
Let’s talk about the atmosphere and visuals. Dying Light 2 looks stunning. The world feels real, like this is what the aftermath of an apocalypse 22 years later would really look like. The attention to detail is amazing, and if you’ve got a good PC, it’s straight-up breathtaking. 9.5/10.

The Story: Enjoyable, But Nothing Crazy
The story was fun, but not mind-blowing. I never felt bored, but I wasn’t exactly on the edge of my seat either. The characters were fine, though not the most memorable. Still, I appreciate the dialogue choices and different endings, it gave me something to think about and made my decisions feel meaningful. Overall, it’s a solid story, but not groundbreaking. 7.5/10.

Combat & Gore Detail: So good
Now, the combat and gore—this is where things get really satisfying. The combat is fun, but the real star here is the gore. The level of detail is some of the best I’ve seen in a game. The finishers could be a bit repetitive, but the way you can slice, smash, and destroy zombies is ridiculously satisfying. The weapons are fun to use and upgrade too. Sure, the strong weapons come easy, but there's still something super satisfying about taking out zombies in brutal ways. The gore just feels right. 9/10.

Side Missions & Guns
There’s a ton more to explore, but I’ll keep it short. One thing I didn’t realize until after finishing the story is that you can unlock guns through side missions. Guns are totally optional, and that’s a nice touch if you prefer a more stealthy or melee-heavy approach. It gives you a lot of freedom in how you play.

Final Thoughts
All in all, Dying Light 2 is a fantastic game. It’s not perfect—the story could’ve been more compelling, and the characters could’ve been fleshed out more—but the parkour, combat, atmosphere, and gore are enough to make it a must-play. I’m already diving back in to finish all the side missions and keep playing around with the parkour. It’s that addictive.

It's really fun, I enjoyed building and exploring and being raided by some cannibals every once in a while. I finished the game with 2 friends and had a lot of fun 100% recommend

Game left me with a very uneasy feeling. The story was great, atmosphere was scary sometimes, game was short so I think I'd recommend buying it on sale.

HUGE city, driving is fun, views are incredible, the fighting is so addicting especially with melee weapons you actually feel like a cyber samurai, game has one of the best soundtracks i've ever heard in my entire life, the story is AMAZING, characters are AMAZING, the abilities and skill tree are AMAZING, you will literally not regret buying this, i was playing it every day for 2 weeks completing everything i could, and i know i'll go back because i want to play it again. bought it for 3 bucks, would've bought it for 20. nevermind no i wouldn't of i'm broke, but if i did have 20 and i saw the game i would have bought it, this game even though it was released in 2015 is insane, graphics were way better than i thought, combat is really cool, i dont know what it is about skill trees but they got me addicted, game has those too. i heard people talk crap about the campaign and it's honestly not bad at all, i'm enjoying it a bunch so far, been playing with a friend. 100% recommend
