A Disastrous Economy: War Thunder Fails to Strike a Balance

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

I must express my profound disappointment with War Thunder's economy, as it embodies everything that is wrong with the free-to-play gaming model. The developers have managed to create an utterly unbalanced and frustrating system that prioritizes profit over player enjoyment. Here are some of the key reasons why the economy in War Thunder is a complete disaster:

Overpriced Premium Content: The game heavily relies on enticing players to purchase premium vehicles, but the exorbitant prices are simply outrageous. It's clear that Gaijin Entertainment is more interested in squeezing every penny out of its player base than in creating a fair and accessible gaming experience. Paying top dollar for a virtual tank or aircraft hardly seems justifiable.

Absurd Repair Costs: The repair costs for vehicles, especially at higher tiers, are outrageously high. It becomes virtually impossible to earn any decent in-game currency unless you're willing to sink hours upon hours of your precious time or, of course, spend real money on premium accounts or Golden Eagles. It's a shame that War Thunder's economy is designed to punish players for engaging with higher-tier vehicles instead of rewarding their progression.

Unreasonable Research Point Requirements: Unlocking new vehicles or modifications through research points feels like an insurmountable task. The requirements are unreasonably high, making it an arduous grind that tests players' patience. The progression system feels deliberately sluggish to encourage players to take the shortcut of spending real money, further highlighting the game's pay-to-win nature.

Inflated In-Game Costs: Purchasing ammunition, upgrades, and crew skills in War Thunder is a financial nightmare. The in-game costs are disproportionately high, forcing players to make difficult choices between progressing their vehicles or remaining competitive in battles. This constant tug-of-war between currency scarcity and progress halts any sense of enjoyment and turns the game into an exhausting chore.

Questionable Matchmaking: War Thunder's matchmaking system is a chaotic mess. It often throws inexperienced players against veterans with powerful premium vehicles, creating an unfair advantage that can quickly ruin the experience for newcomers. This issue further exacerbates the already frustrating economy, as players end up losing battles and struggling to earn the necessary rewards to stay afloat.

In conclusion, War Thunder's economy is a prime example of how a free-to-play game can go horribly wrong. The developers' relentless focus on monetization has resulted in an unbalanced, grind-heavy experience that favors those willing to spend exorbitant amounts of money. Rather than fostering an enjoyable and fair gaming environment, War Thunder's economy leaves players feeling frustrated, cheated, and ultimately disenchanted. I strongly advise anyone considering investing their time or money in this game to proceed with extreme caution.

Edit: After giving the game another opportunity to chance its course it still, to no avail created a rage playing for another 50 hours. This game still gives me up tiers, even though I partied up with a 9.0 Chinese tank. I thought if i got premium it may give me a higher chance for a down tier. Only to reconcile to another 11.0 lobby. So my analysis tells me that this game is pay to lose, as the snail grows from my rage I shall put this game to final resting as i will most likely uninstall this POS game.
