Good EA-Game with a lot potential, BUT

The first look on the story, the landscape, the feeling beeing in the game show the potential.

On the other side the roadmap is disappointing, because there should new placeholder-quests be added although they don´t work on adding more cutscenes.

It´s not said, when all quests will be ready without placeholders e.g.


It´s also not clear, when they will add the cutscenes, maybe after EA, hopefully before the end of EA.

At the moment you can do Weeklys and races.

Issues are normal in EA, but the plans run the wrong way for me, so i can´t recommend the game at the moment.

Save your money until it´s worth it.

Leider gibt es keine Option, ein Spiel neutral zu bewerten. Um es zu empfehlen, hat Garden Paws meiner Meinung nach zu viele Bugs und inhaltlich bietet es zwar eine ansprechende Spielewelt, aber auch viel Grind und wenig sonst. -
Anfangs rennt man dauernd mit einem gewissen Zeitdruck von A nach B, um Quests zu erledigen und Geld im Shop zu verdienen. Bei den Quests hatte ich öfters das Problem, sie abgeschlossen zu haben und mit dem NPC gesprochen zu haben, aber das später oder am nächsten Tag wiederholen zu müssen, weil das Spiel es erst bei zweiten Mal gezählt hat.
Quests haben eigentlich nur das Liefern von Ressourcen als Inhalt, das wird schnell langweilig.
Die Truhen buggen auch ab und an, man kann nicht immer stapeln oder ein Item ist verschwunden, wenn es wertvoll war, habe ich den Tag neu gestartet.
Eigentlich hatte ich mir das Spiel gekauft, um ab und an Multiplayer zu nutzen, aber auch da gibt es Issues und ein Sicherheitsproblem.
Die Orientierung in einigen Gebieten ist schwer, weil es keinen Kompass, Minimap oder Marker gibt, und man immer wieder auf der grossen Map nachsehen muss, wo man ist.
Wie man Dinge freischaltet, ist kompliziert herauszufinden, manchmal ist es eine Questline, manchmal ein bestimmter Zeitpunkt im Spiel, einiges kann man erst nach einigen Ingame-Jahren freischalten.
Fängt man ein neues Spiel an, kann es passieren, dass man ein Upgrade kauft, das erst mal nichts bringt, weil man die Voraussetzungen nicht erfüllt. Da würde ich mir doch wünschen, dass in der ersten Zeit nur sofort nutzbare Upgrades gekauft werden können und man nicht viel Geld für Warten zahlt.

Wen das nicht stört, den Stil mag, Lust auf Craften und Farmen hat und genug Geduld, Dinge erst nach mehreren Ingame-Jahren zu bekommen, passt das Spiel vermutlich, sonst besser nicht kaufen.

Mir gefällt NPLH gut, ich mag die Mischung aus Farmleben und postapokalyptischen Rahmen. Ich mag die Stimmung, dass kein Beziehungsgeflecht zu Dorfbewohnern besteht und man erkundet, die Welt aufräumt und ab und zu auf Gegner trifft.
Bugs oder technische Probleme hatte ich nur kleinere, Spielstandverlust hatte ich einmal. Nachdem ich den Rat, die Cloud-Speicherung auszuschalten angenommen hatte, hatte ich keinen mehr.
Wenn man nicht so viel Wert auf Grafik legt und der Inhalt interessant klingt, würde ich mich nicht vom Kauf abhalten lassen von den relativ vielen negativen Rezensionen.
Nicht so gut finde ich, dass es schwierig und aufwändig ist, wenn man die Farm umgestalten will. Dann muss man die Tiere evtl. nach außen umsiedeln und dann zurück holen, nur weil man den Stall sonst nicht umstellen kann, weil die Tiere im Weg sind.
Anderer kleiner Kritikpunkt sind die Errungenschaften. Ich habe obwohl ich die Story komplett durchgespielt und die Spielwelt gesäubert habe, nur ca. 75%, normalerweise habe ich doch deutlich mehr am Ende eines Spiels. Das fehlende Viertel sind Dinge, die von Robotern auf der Farm gemacht worden sind oder für die ich die Farm mit Tieren überfüllen müsste.
Update 04.01.2025: Ich hatte mich doch noch entschlossen, die Errungenschaften freizuschalten und leider ist die Farm jetzt etwas buggy, zwei Ställe sind in den Zaun geglicht und ein Poster, das ich aufhängen wollte weg.
Schönes Spiel zum Durchspielen, aber wer Wert auf Farming legt, muss sich überlegen, wieviele Tiere die Farm stemmen kann.

Ich habe Above Snakes jetzt völlig durchgespielt und das war sicher nicht das letzte Mal. Es ist ein chilliges Survival-Aufbauspiel. Wer gern gemütlich in der virtuellen Natur unterwegs ist, etwas Kampf mag, dabei die Spielewelt entdecken und gestalten und die Story erleben will, ist bei diesem Spiel richtig. Etwas Geduld und genaues Erkunden sind nötig.
Die Zombies sind zwar da, aber mehr wie in vielen Aufbauspielen Gegner oder Monster, nicht so präsent wie in Spielen, die sehr actionlastig sind.
Für mich ist es eine gelungen Mischung, anderen mag es zu wenig survivallastig sein.
Beim Bauen hat man viel Freiheit, nur Dach über´n Kopf oder große Farm ist Geschmackssache. Man hat ab und zu Quests bei den NPCs, Freundschaften muss man nicht aufbauen, sehr angenehm, wenn man mit vielen Spielen vergleicht, in denen man aufs Dorf zieht und sich dort ein neues Leben aufbaut und Kontakte pflegen muss.

I be aware, that the game is Early-Access, but I can´t recommend it at the moment.
You have to do races to progress (unlock areas, new quests and better horses e.g.) and to make money in the game. If you can´t, there is no alternative way to make money especially as beginner and you have to try again or give up.
Unfotunately if you don´t search for informations before you buy the game you think doing races is one of a lot of things you can do, not the key to progress.

I noticed that there is a story mode since 18.05.23 and played some hours with it, but at the moment you make no much money without competing in races well.

Atherwise I love racing and only wish difficulty-settings to decide for myself, if I want play relaxed or challenging. There is no feedback from the devs, so I can´t reccomend the game now. A little bit easier it could be a present for younger ones.

At the moment it is to tedious and repetetive for the childs around me and

the plans for breeding especially the coat color only from mother or father without having a look on the rules of genetic don´t make breeding interesting for them and olso for me.

Conclusion - Everything is expensive, hard races, and if I think about coming horse illness into the game it probably will be not easier. - Everything looks fine and lovely but the gameplay isn´t balanced.
The story only matters about racing, buying and selling horses, breeding, training horses etc.
There is no other storyline about anything other.
There is no other work at the ranch except caring for some fields within a few moments.
Repairing the ranch you pay for and that´s all.
Your only work is working with horses, training care, races, trading with them. That´s all and it feels boring doing the same every ingame day.

You can´t work in town or earn money otherwise.

Maybe you must sell horses you don´t want sell, because you need money for a overprized improvement like the last stable expansion with place for 4! horses and price 250 000$.
I think a game should be fun and don´t understand the high prices and hard races.

The auction house as only placce you can buy a horse is difficoult for me, because you can´t choose out a horse as at a trader, the horses come in, you don´t know, what the following horses are like and you can buy or not.

Until the release the developers try to consider in some points the wishes of players, but there also come bugs while fixing another bug.

Now i wait, what will done in future, I hope for a well game, but i´m not sure what will happen with it.


Last the camera - if the ractrack is a little curvy, I have to use the mouse for looking around at steering with WASD, because the camera moves around the curve to late to do the jump.

Die Idee finde ich eigentlich nicht schlecht, aber die Umsetzung finde ich nicht gut.

Ein Tutorial fehlt, eine Map gibt es auch nicht, also rennt man erst mal planlos herum.

Schlimm finde ich die Animation des Pferds bergauf , das will ich mir nicht anschauen. -
Verbesserungsvorschlag: Entweder statt den steilen Felsen Hügel, die das Pferd normal hochlaufen kann oder eine passende Animation wären für mich Voraussetzung, weiter zu spielen.
Nach längerer Spielzeit (5 Stunden) macht das Spiel etwas mehr Spaß, man lernt einige Gebiete kennen und das Pferd bekommt einige Boosts, die Animationsprobleme sind nicht mehr so oft zu sehen.
Insgesamt ganz funny, wenn man abschalten will und dabei etwas zu tun haben will.

Ein schönes, schon etwas älteres Westernreitspiel, bei dem man sich durch vier Leistungsstufen durch diverse Turniere nach oben arbeiten kann. Dabei schaltet man neue Pferde, Fellfarben und Ausrüstung frei.
Das Spiel keine Story, Man hat ein kleines Gebiet für freies Reiten. und einen Trainingsplatz.

Sehr gut finde ich, dass man die Tasten frei belegen kann, die Schwierigkeit stufenlos wählbar ist und die kleine Map, die sich so manches modernere Spiel als Beispiel nehmen könnte.

Weniger gefällt mir, dass man bei jedem Turnier dieselben Rennen hat, pro Level kommen jeweils noch einige dazu. So reitet man im Endeffekt pro Level dasselbe Turnier auf verschiedenen Plätzen.
Wenn man sich nicht immer weiter verbessern will, kann das langweilig werden.

Nervig finde ich die Kommentare bei den Rennen, nur leider kann man sie nicht separat abschalten.

Ich bin begeistert von der Insel mit riesiger Map zum Erkunden, Pferde suchen, questen, Coins und Truhen finden. Man kann richtig gut abschalten und hat aber auch was zu tun.
Super finde ich, dass die Nächte wieder hell genug sind, auch nachts gut zu sehen und dass mann verschiedene Ställe bauen kann und nicht quer über die Map reiten muss, wenn ein Pferd erschöpft ist.
Tolles Spiel für alle, die nicht unbedingt eine Story brauchen. Ich habe noch nicht alles entdeckt, aber Daumen hoch und Kaufempfehlung.

Ich habe das Spiel gern auf der Konsole gespielt und mag es von der Grafik und den verschiedenen Aufgaben her sehr gern. ABER die Umsetzung für den PC ist schlecht, die Spielfigur lässt sich im Stall sehr schlecht bewegen, hängt fest und tritt auf der Stelle. Bei der knappen Zeit, die man für die Aufgaben hat, schafft man es nicht, die Pferde zu pflegen. Im Freien kann man mit shift und Pfeiltaste halbwegs laufen.
Ich habe es als Erinnerung im Winter im Angebot gekauft, zum Normalpreis ist es verschwendetes Geld.

Cant´t recommend the game anymore, because horses again die bacause stablecare doesn´t give all off them food and water. It´s no fun, riding around and come home and find a dead horse no matter if there is a rescue medicine.

Ich empfehle das Spiel nicht mehr, weil das Bug, dass nicht alle Pferde von der Stallhilfe versorgt werden wieder da ist. Schade um Spielzeit und Geld. Ja, man kann die Notfallsprize geben, aber nein, es macht keinen Spaß, auszureiten und nicht zu wissen, ob man abends ein totes Pferd findet.
