This game is really fun and usually feels great to play; however, I'm not sure it scratches that Tomb Raider itch. The focus is decidedly not on the exploration/puzzles from previous entries but more on action, story and combat. That said, I still had a very good time and despite its age, it looks fantastic graphically speaking. The camera in the game is very well done, super immersive with the close shots in claustrophobic areas and some vertigo inducing angles when climbing high, though the shakiness can be annoying. It has a kinda B-movie plot but it's a decent origin story. However, like I said, it doesn't really feel like a TR game. There are very few puzzles and the tombs are ridiculously easy (always leave me with a "is that it?" feeling) and the island genocide committed by Lara is hilarious. The combat got a little tiresome by the end of the game as well and at first I was also really turned off by the amount of QTEs but I got used to them. Also, the cutscenes are really too tough on Lara, I know we can't expect realism from a game where gun shots are miraculously healed after resting for two seconds, but for some reason the injuries in the cutscenes seem worse. All in all, it's no quite what I expected but I have to say it's a very well made game and it's great fun to play.

I had a great time with this game! It's not without its flaws but I was so captivated with the story and world-building that they were easy to forgive. Firstly, the game looks gorgeous and the music is beautiful. It's a huge improvement over the first game for sure. Geralt also looks a lot better and not so ghoul like. Secondly, most of the quests seem relevant to the main story and some are very well-written. The story is quite complicated and there are a lot of decisions to make, the main one being very ballsy as it prevents you from seeing a big chunk of the game. I played on Normal and combat was very challenging at the beginning and I struggled with the first proper boss, but it got a lot better after that, especially when I got better abilities and equipment. Still, it's kinda janky and there are bugs and inconsistencies that can be kinda of annoying, but the characters are very well-drawn and the story is super well paced. I am very glad I've played the first two games before finally going into the third one.

I have to admit I was a bit worried about playing this game. I had no previous experience with the Witcher franchise and I had read a lot of complaints about this first game's jank and terrible combat, with many people suggesting skipping it and going straight to the second one first. So, was this worth playing? Absolutely! Though I do get some of the complaints.

I think it depends on what kind of player you are. If you value good combat and gameplay above all else, then this will likely not be your thing. But if your priorities lie elsewhere, say atmosphere, story and world-building, well perhaps you might just love this game. It was an incredibly ambitious project for the developers and I think they mostly did a great job with these latter aspects.

I was gripped by the story from the start and I think they present the world very well for a new-comer to the franchise. I checked every entry of the journal to further my understanding of the world and I soon felt completely immersed in it. There are also a good amount of decisions that you make that impact how the story develops and that is extremely rewarding for me. Often choices felt difficult as well but these kind of moments are not always flawlessly implemented. There are some very strong quests and it's quite amazing how most of these eventually tie together with the main story. I also really appreciated the idea of building Geralt's identity through his in-game decisions rather than getting an exposition dump detailing life before his amnesia. There is a particularly complex detective story within the main quest that is both very impressive due to the myriad of ways in which you can tackle it but also rather frustrating, I had to revert to a past save because a decision I took towards the end kinda ruined the quest for me.

Other aspects I enjoyed were the wonderful music (some tracks are honestly gorgeous) and I thought that the visuals still look pretty good today when it comes to the landscapes. The same can't be said for the character models and animations and it was particularly laughable to see so many models being repeated throughout, especially terrible when they belonged to important characters. Voice acting is subpar.

As for the not so great aspects... I honestly thought the combat was going to be worse. It is mostly a rhythm game which you can complement with the use of signs (think magic) and alchemy. I had read so much about the struggles of others that I played on easy to make it smoother for myself. I kinda regretted that as the game was too easy, even for someone who is notoriously bad at combat as me. Character progression was meh, you get to distribute points throughout sword styles, signs and attributes but I didn't find it terribly satisfying and I believe it doesn't allow for a great variety of builds. Still, even when combat can be very frequent in some areas, I found it tolerable enough. The worst aspect of the game for me has to be the constant back-tracking. Some maps are so poorly designed that it takes you ages to travel from point A to B due to illogical obstacles such as Geralt not being able to go through some weeds or jump a very short wall. It becomes very frustrating because multiple quests require going back and forth between several points and even if you try to organize quests to minimize travel time, you will still be doing so much walking. I'd say that at least a third of my play-through has got to be walking.

All in all, I enjoyed the experience and I was immediately immersed in the world and mysterious, dark atmosphere of The Witcher. I tent to prefer RPGs with more freedom in terms of protagonist but I liked playing as Geralt and shaping him a bit to my taste as much as I did with Commander Shepard in Mass Effect. The best part is that it got me absolutely hyped for the sequels and now I can't wait to get to them.

Well, that was fun, definitely more than I expected of my first experience with the Max Payne franchise. I'm not usually crazy about shooters, but this one had a great combination of cool ambiance, satisfying mechanics and mostly good level design that kept me engaged throughout. It was also rather challenging and had a few frustrating moments (I'm looking at you nightmare sections) and I guess that occasionally the interruptions got to be too much. I love the idea of this wild noir vibe but I admittedly got kinda lost with the story but who cares when all you got to do is keep shooting at the bad guys, right?

PS: I had to install the sound patch and I had about 10 freezes which were a max pain to deal with because I had to log out of my laptop to get it to work.

Well, this is a tough one to recommend, personally. First, a few disclaimers:

1) It's my first TR game -I'm not counting playing a bit with the first two when I went to my uncle's house as a child and played on his PC.
2) It's my first platformer too.
3) I'm not very good at games.

So, that said, I have mixed feelings about this one. The story is non-existent. That's okay, in theory, but it makes the cut scenes kind of meaningless. The combat is... there, I don't see that it adds much to be honest. I'd rather do without. Plus, it's kinda weird to be shooting at so many animals. At first I didn't get the adrenaline dodge -it's honestly not explained very well-, but after reading how to perform it online, I got it, so the boss fights are fine. I appreciated that each boss required a specific strategy to beat; it's not immediately obvious how but once you get that, they are fairly easy.

At the beginning of the game, I was in love. I really loved the puzzle elements and figuring out the routes to get you where you want to go. I was having great fun and it was a decent challenge to beat the levels and find all the secrets. Most of the jumps and mechanics were smooth enough, with a few quirks here and there. Then enters the overuse of the freaking wall run, which ruined many a session of gaming. I don't think it's good game design when you're left wondering if perhaps you're trying something that doesn't work and the solution is somewhere else, but no, it is supposed to be that way, it just doesn't work for whatever reason, until the 20th times when the planets align. You know what I mean? As the game moved forward, I came across other mechanics that were too fickle or bugged out, and honestly ruined the flow for me, especially because plenty of those moments happened far from a checkpoint, so to get them right, I had to do a lot of easier, tedious moves prior to trying and failing the tough one, over and over again. This is very frustrating. The combination of god-awful camera, fickle controls and the checkpoint system can make for a rather painful experience, at least for me, someone who, please remember: is a) not good at games; b) new at platforming. It results in many sequences being successful after pure luck or after fighting against the system, trying to figure out its quirks, instead of the smooth experience it should be. It sucks, because when those are gone, it's very satisfying.

In the end I managed to surpass most challenges, but by the end I was tired and the third ledge of the Great Pyramid was simply too much to bear, lol. I downloaded a save from the internet and moved past when she failed to grab the ledge after beating the flying fire spitting monsters, grappling and wall running countless times. It was honestly the save file or failing to get to the end. After that bit, the challenge went back to tolerable.

Anyway, now that I've finished I'm left with this: I'm not sure if the satisfying moments offset the frustrating ones for me. The overwhelming feeling I get is that I wish the game had been smoother, because when it was good, it was great. Should I try other TR though, that is the question.

Dishonored was a really good game. At first I was slightly disappointed because I had seen so many people put the game in their top 5 games ever, together with other games I consider the best, and I might have been a bit overhyped. The main issue is that the story was pretty forgettable and I probably stopped caring/paying much attention about one third in. The protagonist is the usual silent blank slate and I didn't care much for any of the other characters either.

However, I really enjoyed the gameplay. It didn't take me long to get used to the controls, they are very good, and after the first couple of missions I focused on no-kill missions. It was great fun, to be honest. Nerve-racking and occasionally plenty of trial and error, but never frustrating. I loved having the non-lethal option for the key targets as well, even if it took me longer to accomplish. I got most of the runes/bone charms too. I was inconsistent with the "ghost" achievement, though. I tried but not too hard. Sometimes I just went with it if someone had seen me simply because it made for smoother play, but it is exciting to try to stealth all the way through.

I read about the consequences and effects of lethal/non-lethal gameplay and I got the good ending, but frankly I'm not sure I would have been affected much story-wise if I had gotten the bad ending, because of how little I cared about the story itself. Still, if I'm sounding too negative, then I'm doing it wrong. Dishonored is a super fun game with tight controls and great missions that can be tackled in a myriad of ways, just don't expect too much in terms of story.

I haven't touched the DLC yet, but I might later on!

What a game!

At 70 hours I'm obviously a newbie but here are some things I've done in my first and only save so far:

-Shocked people as a lady fighter
-Gathered a warband
-Worked as a mercenary for some lords and later a king
-Failed to become a vassal because I'm a lady
-Started getting renown through winning tournaments
-Captured cities and towns for my liege who won't even recognize me as vassal
-Started working for other rulers
-Became a businessowner in several towns
-Finally become a vassal for a king
-Destroyed another faction as a vassal for my king
-Helped that king conquer half the map
-Acquired friendships
-Got married to a good guy who likes me for who I am
-Became frustrated with the other lords for their incompetence
-Renounced my allegiance
-Created my own faction and became queen
-Destroyed another faction and took their lands
-Trained better armies to garrison my ever-increasing territories
-Recruited lords to my cause
-Won around 60% of the map

And much, much more.

What a game indeed!

It's alright. I'm a pretty big fan of LOTR (or used to be) and this nails the superficial vibe of the atmosphere. However, the characters are very bland. The story is very thin and it's really not that integrated into the gameplay. It feels a lot more like going through the loop with an occasional twist and then watch a cut-scene. Rinse and repeat. It helps that the cut-scenes are well done and the graphics are decent.

Like others have said, combat is an Arkham/AC hybrid and it is rather easy. I didn't find the controls to be as smooth as the Arkham series though, sometimes they were flaky or lacking in responsiveness. I appreciated the basic loop of gathering intel and using the uruks' weakness against them; that meant that you could avoid the button smashing and use other strategies for some battles.

The best thing this game has going for it is the nemesis system, but I wished it had been fleshed out a bit more. I didn't feel it had any importance by the end of the game, but it did make the beginning/middle game pretty fun.

I collected every item and did more than half of the weapons/outcast missions; I stopped when the fun ran out, plus I was quite OP by the end anyway. The ending is super anticlimactic and feels super rushed. I thought it was building towards something epic, what with all the branded warchiefs and a powerful boss, but it was a QTE bore. And it's not like I am fan of boss battles in general, but this felt insanely shallow.

All in all, as you can see, I felt this game had a lot of flaws and I'm rather mixed on it. However, I'd still recommend it because I had fun most of those hours, especially at the beginning when I was weaker and battles seemed more eventful, but I wouldn't play for the story.

Absolutely loved this game. Even if it's quite old by now, it looks and sounds fantastic. The story is a bit thin overall but it's a great excuse to pair Batman with some of his classic enemies and the setting in Arkham Asylum is fabulous; incredibly atmospheric and expertly designed. I loved going through the different areas in the Asylum, especially because the game is expertly paced, alternating the mechanics masterfully to up the momentum (action, combat) or give the player a breather (detective, stealth). I wasn't enamored with the boss fights, I'm not really a fan in general to be honest, but they were never frustrating, so it wasn't a big deal. I loved how the game kept adding new gadgets that expanded on the gameplay and opened up new possibilities. I liked the detective mode but at times I used it too much, which was a bummer because I liked looking at the detailed world with the normal view.

Basically, every element in this game comes together to create a sublime experience: to make the player feel like Batman in Batman's world. Be it through nailing a great combo (I suck at combat but even I could feel badass at times; easy to learn, hard to master), using the vast array of gadgets purposely, sneaking up to enemies or deciphering the mysteries of the world, the game manages to give the player a complete Batman experience.

There are a plethora of collectibles and things like that for achievement hunters and some challenge modes that I didn't try, both of which could add some more hours of play to what I felt was the perfect length for the main game. In conclusion, loved it and can't wait to play City!

I think I'm finished with this playthrough, so I might as well write my impressions.

I am new to the GTA franchise and it's not necessarily "my thing". I see many people rightly mad at the Steam version of the game, but since I have no experience with any other version, no nostalgia and since I had no trouble at all making it work in Windows 10, I can't really complain about that.

I enjoyed my time with the game. The graphics are dated but not intrusively so. I liked most of the voice acting, especially those celebrity cameos, though some were pretty grating (I'm looking at you OG Loc). I had read this had the best story in the GTA franchise but for me it was pretty secondary; it might get better in the last section of the game which I admittedly didn't play, but I wasn't impressed with the writing or story overall.

The missions were hit or miss. I had a blast with some and I appreciated the different mechanics on display, but some were quite tedious and others incredibly frustrating. The RPG inspired system is... there. The controls were very hard for me to master (mouse and keyboard, if that helps) and when flying was put to the test it just stopped being enjoyable for me, which is mostly why I stopped playing. There are tons of cutscenes, which helped create that cinematic vibe but I found the implementation of the cutscene/mission system a bit awkward. It's an interesting world and setting, greatly aided by the fantastic radio stations (I enjoyed most of them to be honest) but it's rather empty and I think it suffers from how little it cares about what the player does or does not do.

Finally, I know these games are enjoyed by many thanks to the free-roam, chaotic possibilities it allows for, but that kind of play doesn't hold my interest for more than 2 minutes, so that didn't do anything for me.

All in all, though it's not really the kind of game I love most and stopped playing due to some personal frustrations I had with the controls, I would recommend this game and I understand its importance in pop culture. I'm glad I tried it.
