I recently got the gold metal achievment and for all of those hours it didn't feel grindy, i had genuine fun for most of the time i have in this game and the rest of the time was when other people where playing after i said they should and could

it is a fun, ballenced game

you can't just of to a boss at the start of the start of the game but when you can defeat a boss it feels great
