I played the last instance of the closed beta and pretty much every moment I could squeeze in after launch and now that the login server issues seem to be smoothed out... the game is delivering on the promise I saw in beta. In spades.

You CAN play the game solo (I wrote a steam guide about it) but in any PVP game with this scale you have to adjust your expectations. In my case so far I've been attacked 3 times. First time I outmaneuvered a team of 3 who were on a faster walker, second time I was boxed in by two spiders (which was brilliant on their part!) but then I killed both of them hand to hand and was able to get away. Third time I was attacked by a team of 5 or 6 who knew what they were doing and lost... what I had on my character and the legs on my walker. That was it. In 10 minutes I was back playing on that SAME walker - now with armored legs. I had planned to be able to recover, though, so it was fairly simple.

For the most part the game runs beautifully and feels like a AAA title even though its Early Access. It IS still Early Access, though and individual servers have been running into stability issues. So far that seems to me some laggy performance then a shutdown/disconnect. When you log back in it might have rolled back a bit but its generally good to go otherwise. If the server (Oasis) you're on starts performing poorly and you're worried about getting disconnected with your walker and character left in game just log out to the lobby and come back to it later.

The game isn't full of hyper aggressive zergs. That said, there ARE hyper aggressive clans in the game and if they're to thick on your server... you might want to respawn or travel to another server and try your luck there. Unless you are also in a good sized clan and then... let the games begin!!! You can even enjoy stealth warfare against a big clan as a solo. Just set it up so you don't have much to lose and enjoy the challenge of it.

Its a good game. If you understand the risks of EA titles and open world PVP games then you might want to give it a try.

This is my second account on this game - I actually have more like 500 hours into the game in total.

Its a good, early access game. If you like what you see in the vids then you'll probably enjoy the game as it is now. I certainly do: I love exploring, the unique physics based play, skill based (rather than leveling up based) play and learning/finding better schematics to do more ship building experiments. The game as it is is good.

That said, for various reasons the devs aren't adding or changing things much recently so once you've gotten tired of exploring and ship building (which I haven't) you'll turn to other things to keep playing. Many top tier players (i.e. those who have reached the most difficult tier of the game already and are more or less done exploring and advancing as their primary activity) are currently not playing while waiting for announced but undated major additions and a wipe of the servers, setting everyone back to the beginning.

The game is more fun with a larger population - both friendly and unfriendly - and it is a bit slow right now. That doesn't mean its a bad game. I'm still greatly enjoying it.
