Darkwood is, by far, the best horror game made for quite some time. Everything about this work of art screams passion, and you can tell that Acid Wizard Studios has put serious elbow grease into this game.

The story, world-building and lore are all fantastic, keeping you engaged and interested in the twisted forest as you try to find your way out.
On your journey, you may change your heading multiple times, and that's where the most fun part comes in. Each decision you make in the world around you will change it, you're the harbinger of this forest, and your decisions truly matter.

The survival part, albeit a bit unnerving and strange at first, is very finely tuned to be challenging, but fun and manageable. It takes some time to explore, and that may put you off at first, but this game is truly all about exploration. That is the driving force that keeps you moving.
You never feel like you have everything, until you're at the point where you truly do have everything. The nights ALWAYS have a sense of dread and terror, no matter how many times you've faced their hordes of creatures and unexplainable events.

The ending is something you truly work towards, and feel liberated once you achieve. I have revisited Darkwood 4 times, and have always left it with a sense of triumph, confusion, and sadness.
The only drawbacks to this game is that it's too short to feel like a game worth replaying - but trust me, if you play it wholeheartedly, you will end up replaying.

This game will for ever be something I will hold close to my heart, and as far as I can see, will not be decrowned as my favorite game for a long, long time.

10/10, do DEFINITELY recommend.

I have been following this game since early beta. Hell, I've followed the original Subnautica since it was just half-way through Early Access. The original was a big hit, and now it's runner-upper is here. Does it stand up to the titan that is Subnautica? Well, Below Zero has, without a doubt, seen a bit of criticism. Not much, mind you, but it's noticeable. It seems that the reviews are either very positive, or very negative.

That being said, Subnautica: Below Zero was a great experience over all. Sure, there are a few things here and there I'd change, but the game itself is great if you really just let yourself enjoy it. A lot of people seem to rush the game, or read too much into the bigger picture instead of taking in the smaller details. This game is not for them. This game is all about taking things slow and smooth. Every game can suck if you do the bare minimum required of you to beat the game.

Main criticism I'd give is Robin. After looking back, she's a bit of a strange personality. I saw almost no sadness in her when finding out how her sister had died, and it was just a bit dry in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, an overly enthusiastic and cheery character works great, especially when put next to such a serious and seemingly emotionless character such as Al-An, but a bit of variety would have been better.

The Alterra storyline could also have been touched on a bit more. Something to really get the player going, ensuring negative feelings toward the supposedly corrupt company. If you get enough PDA entries and really read into it, you see why and what they are to blame for, but it's not quite enough still.

The creatures in the game are all great, how ever, I find them a bit strange in one particular region. The way they attack is unlike the original game, and almost ruins them entirely. A part of the thrill of being chased is not knowing how far, or close you are to the creature. That's quite easy to decipher when they make a loud chomping sound all the time while attacking you. Now, this is done very well with the Shadow Leviathan, the way you hear him pushing water out of it's way as it charges you with it's spade-head is horrifying and really got me out of my chair, but hearing a constant ear-tearing sound from the Squidshark, a considerably smaller creature, isn't as great.

Lastly, the land part of the map feels quite barren. In the sea you have all kinds of things, small to big, it feels like a genuine ecosystem. But on land, there are 3 creatures, ranging from small, big, and leviathan. I would have killed to see a bit more liveliness in the Glacial Basin, some sort of food chain at least, but at the same time, the lack of life makes it feel more deserted, lonely, and scary, and that is a big part of this game, maybe not as big as the original, but they still rewrote the storyline to make you feel more alone, so this issue is a double edged sword.

Other than that though, the game is fantastic. The base building was improved well, the environment feels lively as ever, except for the land part, which I am still unsure on, is it a good thing or a bad thing? Nevertheless, the game gave me a good experience. The story was great, the cinematography was beautiful, the characters were fun and interesting, albeit a small cast.

One of the main reasons that people find this game underwhelming is due to the fact that it's predecessor was already a very hard goal to beat. But, if you just let yourself sink into the game for a bit, focus on what you want to do with it, it will feel like just as fun as the original. I had a hell of a time making bases with the new large rooms, outposts on land, messing around with the music system, and all the great features this game brings.

Subnautica: Below Zero, and it's predecessor, will always have a spot in my library for them. Nothing is quite like them, and that's the magic of it in the end.

It's hard to say if it's worth YOUR money, as this game depends heavily on teamwork, if you have friends willing to sit with you through pretty much the entire game, I'd totally recommend it. If not you should reconsider, as it is extremely hard, if not impossible to beat alone.

Good concept, good execution, good graphics and sound design, but just too relyant on teamwork for people like me, who've got no friends.
