i really thought i would like signalis because i love survival horror and the things it is inspired by; and i dont think the game is bad but i dont think its as good as a lot of the reviews seem to think. the game is very stylish and has a very cool radio mechanic, and it has some well made and fun puzzles (but not enough of them to compensate for how much "get a key to open a door to get another key" there is).

unfortunately i found the gameplay itself to be quite boring and tedious and it is too derivative of its inspirations so much so that it just feels weirdly frustrating to me that it lacks more originality because i think it has some interesting ideas and could be a lot better. i also dislike the presentation of the main story being through reading a bunch of notes around the game, needs more "show dont tell." i also think that it was a bad design choice to have such a large variety of weapons and healing items because instead of walking into a room to get a full handgun magazine you instead get 3 handgun bullets, a shotgun shell, 2 magnum bullets and a flare. i love inventory management in games and i know its an option now to have it expanded or not but this is just a bizarre design choice for the genre. i got merked way too many times by just walking through a door and an enemy standing on the other side, unable to react at all because youre animation locked and i wasnt a fan of how interacting with items and certain doors/holes made you click through text while enemies arent static and can hit you out of the text. i love sci fi settings in games but i didnt really like the anime art style and i think the pretentious story presentation was lame and dropped it in hell. the mechanics/visuals/themes it didnt rip from other survival horror games/ghost in the shell were just too similar to other indie games 3/10 i dont want to play another gay depression indie game i already played night in the woods
