As close to perfection as it gets when it comes to storytelling and interesting gameplay, Borderlands 2 expands and perfects the ideas put in place by it's mediocre predecessor Borderlands. The guns are more creatively designed, and the manufacturers have actual impact on gameplay, rather than a passive bonus. The characters (both playable and non) are phenomenal, and the DLC characters are worth a look. The writing is hilarious, but the game can take itself seriously when it needs to. There is little post game without buying DLC, but there are multiple New Game+ modes, titled True Vault Hunter Mode and Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. In either of these the XP gets better, the enemies get stronger, and the loot gets rarer and rarer. If you're going to get any Borderlands game, make it Borderlands 2.
