I first played this game years ago as a very broke, very bored child on a very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ laptop. Not particularly that deep strategy wise, especially because the pool of cards is small and will never expand, but enjoyable all the same.

I remember going to Costco, being bored out of my mind and playing Fate on the display laptops.

A simpler time.

I didn't know what the hell I was doing as a dumb 9 year old, and tbh I sank way too much time as an adult before I figured out what the hell I was doing.

I beat this game on the hardest difficulty, and I got very lucky by fishing up a cheese hat, which gave me way higher drop rates for rare items.

(Seriously, first thing I did was go fishing and I got Peronto's Cheesehead of the Emerald Bay [fate.fandom.com])

Turns out, hardest difficulty is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard, and it quickly became a huge grind. Also magic is so much better than any weapon it's kinda nuts.

If I were you, I'd buy this game and play it on normal or easy mode (Can't remember the actual difficulty names). It's a great nostalgia trip and if you're anything like me and you got that completionist itch, you won't regret picking this up. On discount obviously for 99 cents. Please don't pay full for this.

Great game all around. Would recommend watching some analysis videos after playing.

Lewis's and Gregory's story is really heartbreaking and extremely well told.

It's a rare enough thing to see a something oozing with style and such a thick atmosphere also be free.

I had no idea what I was getting into, and frankly surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Now that I've played it, all I can say is that I can't wait for the finished version to come out.

It's the kind of game that makes me want to start making games.

Really good story, dialogue, and voice acting, but the pacing almost kills it for me.

The graphics are just ok, sometimes it does look jarring, but for the most part it ranges from ok to great.

But the pacing is really bad. The amount of times I had to slowly walk up the stairs, or climb slowly on a wall is obscene. This slow pacing can work when there's dialogue for you to engage with, but when you're back tracking so you can get all the pages and anomalies, it's terribly boring.

Specifically, before you go down (if you played the game I'm sure you know what I mean) you're given some time to explore the map. I feel like this would have been a perfect opportunity add in a fast travel mechanic by clicking the signs.

So would I recommend it? Sure, but only for the patient.

When I played Portal 1, I knew people loved this franchise and fully expected a fantastic puzzle game. That's exactly what I got.

Portal 2 took everything I thought was great about Portal 1 and cranks it up to 11.

Graphically, it's way better, which is to be expected for something that came out 4 years later. I will say though, the ending scene felt low res compared to the rest of the game

The Characters really shine in this game. The voice acting and dialogue for Wheatley is hilarious, Cave Johnson is probably the best fictional name I've heard of yet, and GLaDOS's story is fleshed out to be the most interesting character of them all.

The gameplay is greatly expanded upon with 3 different types of gels that speed you up, bounce you high, and allow you to put portals on. They also add in light bridges (personally my favorite addition) and these weird float light tunnels.

I found the music to be really nice, and I liked it when Wheatley plays Classical music, the music that plays when you hit the jump pad matches it as well.

Hopefully this review is coherent enough for you to understand that this is an 20/10 game, and will make you depressed beyond belief when you realize Valve doesn't make singleplayer games anymore (except for half-life alyx).

For a person that doesn't play a lot of puzzle games, I found Portal to be both engaging story-wise and creative gameplay-wise. So if you're new to the puzzle genre, this is an easy pickup that you'll enjoy immensely.
