Outer Wilds is a rare type of game, a story based game that is best suited to being a game. That may sound stupid but many story based games could easily be books or series, not Outer Wilds. Outer Wilds offers a level of freedom to the point your only inhibitor is what you know. Once you’ve beaten the game once, you can finish it in 9 minutes or so. No game does this as well as Outer Wilds, no game turns information and knowledge into your main want while being as interesting as Outer Wilds. Despite the whole game just being about learning, the game is expertly crafted so that every question you answer gives you more questions with more desirable answers. This makes the game practically impossible to put down until you’ve beaten it, a state of play that even AAA games, with millions in budget fail to create. The game tackled interesting and nuanced concepts with grace and delivers on every promise it gives you. I have never seen a game wrap itself up so well, the ending presented truly encapsulating the game as a whole. I truly hope that this game will go down in not only gaming history but storytelling history, as the way it tells it’s story is impeccable and the game as a whole deserves to be studied. 10/10.
