Disclaimer, this is going to be a very long review as to why I think the game is still good, despite what other people that have barely played it think.

I've first got into the game in 2014, and I've been playing it on and off, in 2016 I really got into it, when destroyers were freshly released, I was and still am playing almost daily, this game helped me get through the darker days, whenever I needed my fill of sci-fi action I knew where to go.

It is quite the grind, but nothing impossible if you can plan ahead of what you want to do and where, the only money I ever spent on the game were on the Mauler DLC, which helped me reach 1 billion credits, but that was by playing at least 20 PvE missions a day, daily, with a premium license for 2-3 months, paying doesn't skip any grind, there are some ships specifically locked behind that (aka DLCs) but they aren't necessarily more powerful, they just specialize in different tactics, some standard ships can be better for certain play styles or team compositions, there are events happening almost all the time, earning the premium currency can be done via completing regular tasks, which takes 20 days and grants you 500GS, that on top of trading, or events, in game and on the forum, which can even grant you DLC ships, all that it takes is to keep an eye out, and have some patience.

You cannot compare this game to games like Fractured Space or Dreadnought, they are based on capital-class ship combat, while Star Conflict is fast paced, small ship combat, so saying that they are better is not a valid argument, and not only that, but Fractured Space is officially dead, and Dreadnought is staring down the barrel, while SC is doing fine, there is a lot of content underway.

Gameplay wise, the controls are relatively easy to grasp on, and with some training you can pull off quite the maneuvers, another thing I really like about is that it makes you think about every single module in your build, how it impacts your playstyle and streamlining them for every tier of every gamemode, and for every team, and all the tactics that you can come up with, from intermittently locking on and cancelling it so you can avoid the damage of a reflected rage, to using implants combined with multipurpose modules to counteract debuffs and give you a window to escape impending doom, so you can fight back against a ship type that is supposed to be effective against yours, it can have Warframe levels of building complexity, and Dark Souls levels of gameplay and timing.

The ship models and sound effects are amazing in my opinion, but that is purely subjective, from the streamlined Spike, to the blocky Mauler and even the Ellydium ships can look great, sound design is neat, sound effects changing their pitch depending on how fast you approach or get further from them, and localized sound which means that if a ship explodes on your right, only your right ear will hear it, performance wise it can be ran on almost anything, there are some software issues, but everyone knows that Windows is the best OS for gaming, period.

About player numbers, the number on steam is only people that actually use the platform, it doesn't count the ones that use the standalone launcher, and since the game is Russian based, it makes sense they wouldn't use something from the west, it has quite the presence in Russia in fact, the numbers are at least 20 times higher, you can even view it in game in the weekly leaderboards.

To sum it all up, I have played for 202 days according to my profile(xXThunderFlameXx, look it up if you want), which translates to 4848 hours(not including time in battles), I went from a regular player, to a steam moderator, and now a game moderator, the community can be nice, there are of course some bad apples, but all games have those, and despite all of its imperfections, this game will always remain a favourite of mine.
