Thrill of the Hunt
The chase is what excites me. The feel of the wind in my face, running briskly through the trees. He knows I love the chase. He knows I track them well.
With my head on a swivel, my eyes dart through the trees, searching. Humming a nameless melody to myself, my fingers squeeze around the axe handle in my possession. The stench of fear swirls around me like a nervous spirit, and it fills my nostrils, snapping my head to the left. I march on in search of my prey.

Clicking, grinding gears and the moving parts of a machine become louder as heartbeats become stronger. My eyes fall upon someone crouched next to a generator, sweat beading off of his forehead. Too focused to notice my presence, despite his own heartbeat banging furiously in his chest.
I YANK him from the generator, listening to his screams fill my ears. I heave him over my shoulder and leave, my lullaby ever-present. His long tan coat draped over his body, the name tag identifying him as "Detective Tapp". The irritable little worm writhes in my grasp, causing me to stumble across the ground.

The soft rain tickles the back of my neck as I haul Tapp to a tall hook-like structure, positioned outside of a grim, damp cabin. With a swing, I throw him onto the hook, the sound of cracking bones and squishy flesh permeating the air as the rusted metal claw splices through his shoulder. A scream louder than life erupts from him, but he's cut off as three grotesque black blades skewer him through his meaty abdomen. Silence once again caresses the misty, rainy night.

Dead as a doornail, I think to myself, starting in the opposite direction. Behind me, the claws lift his lifeless body to the sky, allowing the entity to collect its sacrifice. The hook detaches from the stand, landing on the ground with a hard clang.

A siren sounds in the distance, signalling the completion of one of the generator machines scattered across the area. There are others here. Tapp was not alone, and this makes me grin under my rabbit mask. I hear the footsteps before I even see her. As I move closer, the ground becomes decorated with glowing red marks, as if someone cut the earth open just to watch her bleed. This fills me with motivation, as I stalk the footsteps faster.

Humming away, I follow the markings until I see the bouncy black curls of another victim. This one is shorter, slender, more vulnerable. I watch her head turn back, and her eyes grow wide with fright as they land on me. She picks up the pace, and a grin slides across my lips. I pull a hatchet from my pocket, winding my arm back and lining up the shot. I release the handle, the blade striking her square in the back. With a scream, she falls to the ground. I tug the axe out of her, tossing it aside. I heave her up off the ground, throwing her over my shoulder.

"Claudette!" a voice screams. With a hook in my sights, I walk towards it, my mind consumed by the thought of her blood coating the forest floor. "Yui, just run!" Claudette says weakly, whilst jostling around my grip.

I keep my nose focused on the fear oozing out of this "Yui" while I close in on the hook for the poor soul over my shoulder. With another swing, I slam Claudette onto the hook. Her scream only lasts a moment, the entity greedy and hungry for another meal.

As I turn around, a blinding light flashes in my face. I growl loudly, covering my eyes with my hand. My vision is fuzzy, making me swing my axe around blindly. It soon goes away, and the red marks sharply come into focus on the ground. Humming more sinisterly now, I continue forward.
Lights above another complete generator bounce off of the goggles on her head. The siren sounds once more, loudly in my ears. My lullaby persists as Yui enters my field of vision. She looks back, but her stern face makes me aware of her determination to live.

I pull out another hatchet, winding my arm back, ready to strike. I release, but she was able to dodge it by jerking to the side. I grumble, turning to chase her again. I ready my last hatchet, Yui wiggling while running to try and deter my aim. Walking closer to her to make the easy fail-proof shot, I throw it at her. To my dismay, she yanks down a large wooden pallet in between us at the same time. Catching me off-guard for a few seconds while she screams and falls to the ground.

I whine, trying to regain my footing. I stomp down on the pallet, effectively breaking it to pieces, before stepping a few feet forward to pick up the helpless Yui. Like the others, she twitches and squirms, but my strength outweighs hers. I find a lonesome hook positioned next to a dead generator. I heave her up and slam her on the hook, an ear-piercing scream wafting through the air. Once more, the entity comes down, pleased by the death of yet another yummy body.

Somewhere in the distance, I hear a metal door creak open. I stand still for a moment, my eyes full of bloodlust. I let my master lead me forward, the whispers in my ear a delicate sound. I move my feet forward, letting the whispers consume me and my lullaby. There's one more, and I will hunt it down.
The chilling hymn of the hatch twenty meters to my left is strong. The whispers stop as I gaze at a human running toward it, just as I am. Her maroon braids bounce off of the back of her neck. My head ♥♥♥♥♥ to the side, the pearly, yet dusty white mask on her face familiar, but I'm unsure as to why. I continue on, the blade of my axe begging for blood.

The human catches sight of me as we both close in on the humming hatch. I ready my axe, prepared to lunge forward to deliver a downing blow. I strike, leaping forward, but I'm seconds too late as the girl dives through the open hatch, thrusting herself into the sweet darkness of safety. I howl to the night, frustrated and angry. I almost had them all....

I stare down into the inky blackness, making sure to remember the details of her face. I never leave a prize unkilled, and I'll be sure she's the first to go when we meet again.
