Here's the real problem: after Alyx people don't settle for half baked VR experiences.
If this game came out before Alyx, it would be heralded as phenomenal.

There's just too many issues: hit recognition is way off A LOT of the time.
Even though I'm on a 3090, the visuals are lowest common denominator (Quest 2), so it isn't very pretty, just decent.
The gunplay/relaoding is janky AF, the grenade throwing is way off, and the gameplay general is very unsatisying.

A friend and I tried and failed to enjoy this game and not refund it.
I wish I could say wait until the game is thoroughly patched, but there are just too many problems to patch them all.

I cannot recommend this game highly enough; the story telling, the incredibly meta perspectives you take, the engaging and very different set pieces.

Just phenomenal game through and through; please make more!
Also, has the developer looked into making a vr compatible mod of any sort?

I feel like this would translate beautifully into vr.

Bought this very early access, looked promising, but was real bad. Tried again today, WAY better.
However, is it impossible to open the red loot-filled boxes? Supposed to grip them? Where?

This will likely be incredible in 6 more months or so.

EDIT: About a week after posting this review, the devs adding using grip instead of triggers on index controllers to access the stashes. I'm very impressed by this update and prompt response/integration. Buy this game!

I'm about an hour in and really enjoying it so far. If you played Fisherman's Tale, this seems far less meta and a much slower burn but extremely well done nonetheless. I can imagine the ways these puzzles will become much more involved than the first hour shows. The workshop feels very good, the gameplay is smooth. My only complaint is that the turning should have the option to happen more quickly.

Can it feel grindy to have to pick up all the components? Sure. But if what you want is fast paced gaming, get Alyx. If you want a story-rich slow burn with fun mechanics, gradual reveals and beautiful environments then this is your game.

I can't recommend this highly enough. The art and sound design are over the top incredible.
I don't love all the stuff the voice is saying during the video, but you can easily turn it off.

Wonderful visual/audio experience. I messaged the dev and he said he wasn't making anything else like this, sadly.

This game was a huge letdown; bullet sponges, endless glitches, runs terribly on my evga ftw ultra 3090.
Don't buy, unless you like spending 4k on a rig and getting 30 fps.

Great for fans of the series; I very much wish someone would make Dalinar's visions in VR.
I'd pay a buttload to experience those.

Everything I wanted and more.

This game seemed alright at first, but the grips for the valve index don't work properly with this game. Even getting out of the menu was almost impossible. Once I finally got the grip working to pick up the VHS tapes, it wouldn't let go of it to set it in the VHS player. When I finally got it set, after 3 restarts of the game, I couldn't pick up any ammo, because the valve index grips do not work.

Edit: Vertigo games just released a hot fix and completely fixed the issue. I have changed my review to a thumbs up. It's simple in content/play style, but not a bad game. I'd recommend waiting for a sale.
