With Dynasties, we get the Bronze age total war we've all wanted. CA Sophia has created an excellent game here, and if you have interest in the Bronze Age near east, I'd suggest giving it a try. We still need a more fleshed out Urartu and Elamite civilization in my opinion.

Probably the most fun I've had in a strategy game since Total War: Warhammer came out. This game captures the intrigue and conflict of the Duniverse very well. The art style, an interesting mix between the recent movie and influence from the book, is very well realized.

Each of the main factions truly feel different. Going from being able to strong arm the Landsraad and dominate the battlefield with Sardaukar as the Corinos to ride sandworms and harvest spice in unusual ways as the Fremen is great fun. While the games can be rather short, they're still very enjoyable and I've never really felt like there's nothing to do.

That being said, the game can be difficult. Some factions are much better realized for certain victory styles than others, and trying to compete with, for example, the Atreides in diplomacy is a huge uphill battle. Find an area to focus on, and gear your economy towards it is my advice.

Lastly, the music is great. Not quite reminiscent of the Hans Zimmer soundtrack in the movie, its different enough to be memorable and very much FEELS like Dune.

This game gets a 9/10 for me, I'd absolutely recommend it.

Lol, a story by Dan Abnett? What story? There's no story, period. And that's before the microtransactions.

Core gameplay is great, but come on Fatshark, we expect better.

Honestly, I really wanted to give this game a good review. I really did. But for now, it'll stay negative.

In terms of actual gameplay. Its fun, for the most part. Nothing revolutionary really, but a nice continuation of the series. Melee combat is mostly good, although ranged combat is irksome and especially with Kislev, who rely on a mix of ranged weapons and melee, really suffers as a result. (Its not enjoyable having a unit of streltsi form up 20 different times before releasing half a volley on an enemy, then proceed to do nothing unless you're spamming clicks constantly). Now onto the real killer.

This game is horribly optimized. I have a very modern rig (i9 3900K and 2070 super) and this game chugs on the campaign at 30 frames on medium settings. Why CA hasn't bothered to fix these things before release is beyond me. The Sofia team did an excellent job releasing Troy Total war without any major bugs and the game was optimized quite well.

Edit: Immortal Empires fixed this game. Thank Ursun its finally playable!

As close to a Bronze age Total War as we're going to get. If you don't mind the "hollywood history" vibes of movies like Troy with Brad Pitt, or the earlier Total wars like Rome and Medieval 2, you'll enjoy this game. Best campaign of recent games in the series by far. The barter system, ambiance, and faction mechanics make this game a joy to play.

Its a shame that the development of the game angered both the more grounded history fans and the fantasy fans, because this game is a real gem, give it a try!

This DLC really fleshes out some of the other interesting cultures of the late Bronze Age. Aethiopia, under Memnon, in particular, adds a huge variety of units from several major subcultures and is a ton of fun to play. If only the game expanded the map to the Near East!

Rome 2 in its current state is, quite frankly one of the best historical titles in the series. Where there used to be little flavor, bland objectives, etc, they've added new videos to add flavor, a pretty decent politics/family tree system, and many more factions for some actual variety in who you fight. For example, in my Seleucid game, I'm fighting Parthians in the east and Nubians in the south, both who require very different strategies to fight.

The only downside I would say is the performance could be optimized a bit more, and the soundtrack is still very bland and lackluster.

This game went from a 4/10 to a 9/10 in the last few years, and that in itself is an impressive achievement.

This is a big ambitious game by a small dev team. I've alpha and beta tested it, and well it isn't perfect now, I'd still recommend it as they are very clearly working with the community and improving the game.

Also, its 1920+ with mechs. How can you not like that.
