Very good game, updates range from great to questionable.
However I do not fully recommend it to new players because of the (understating it) ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AWFUL community, and the dying status of the game.
The mechanics are good, fighting is simulated in a satisfying way, you'll also have tons of fun customizing your characters, especially if you want to make them historically accurate - there are a lot of materials to chose from.
The devs still want to try some new things, so there have been a lot of updates that changed some things, in my opinion, for the better. You also have some new game modes, etc.

Honestly, if you can savor up the absolute raetardation of the community (it's one of the WORST that I've ever had the displeasure to encounter, seriously), and a more niche/dying status of the game, I recommend you buy it, on discount.

The soundtrack for the original Ancestors Legacy was a masterpiece, and while still retaining the same quality it has, I feel like this soundtrack is somewhat lacking compared to the vanilla. In my opinion, the soundtrack would be better than it currently is if only songs such as Hassassin's Creed were longer, a new battle track would be added, and the song from the cutscenes was added into the track list, but other than that, it's a decent enough soundtrack to be recommended to me.

Ancestors Legacy - Saladin's Conquest is a DLC that adds a new nation and campaign to the already criminally underrated game that is Ancestors Legacy. I will be dividing this review into 3 parts:

1. Story/Campaign
2. The Saracen Nation
3. Conclusion
So, without a further ado, let's go:

1. Story/Campaign:
The story of Saladin's Conquest revolves around Salah-ad-Din Yusuf, the first Sultan of the Ayyubid Dynasty and thus the Saracens, it details his plans, skirmishes and ultimately his conquest of Jerusalem. A very welcome theme to this story was the fact that it kinda bashes crusaders and their christian preachers, a feature I think is lacking in historical games (since many crusader LARP-ers tend to play them) so I think it may provoke some crusader sympathizer playing the game. On the other hand, I think that playing the muslims and having them as the good guys in video games is very, very lacking, and while not being a muslim, I still think that showing their side of the story and playing their sultans and troops is a fine addition to historical games. I really appreciate the fact that the muslims are humanized here, and that the crusaders are presented for what they really were, honorless, idiot yet still dangerous enemies. I really like the characters of Gokbori and Abdullah, the sharp contrast and leadership tactics of the two, their relationship with the sultan Saladin, and ultimately, Abdullah's fall. The cutscenes are narrated by Saladin himself, which is the first time the leader of the nation you play narrates a campaign. I really like Saladin's thoughts and mentality about everything, you can just notice that he really cares for his people and wants best for them, and you can even relate to his opposition to the invaders of his lands. I also really like the ending of the campaign, a brutal, yet satisfying and happy ending.

8.5/10

2. The Saracen Nation:
Here I wanted to talk about the Saracens in skirmish and multiplayer, I think they are well made, but I have a feeling like the developers didn't know how to balance them out and ended up making them slightly weaker than all others (except for Germans). I think that a mod "Crusade vs Jihad" really fixes the problem I think the Saracens have. That is that the hassassins, while being a shieldman squad, don't really play as one, except for countering spearmen. The fact that their ability to raise shields in the face of archers was irritating, though camouflage and explosive trap were fun to use. I also didn't like how the hassassins have so little units, I think there's about 5 of them (though I can see why the units are squished for the already OP grenadiers). Another complaint I have regarding the Saracens is the fact that they have high food consumption, just like the Vikings and Slavs. I don't really think this makes any sense historically, and instead think that they've added this feature just to make Saracens less OP, which I think really nerfed them. I like Saladin's abilities and buffs, because of their unique nature, and I also appreciate the looks and styles of the Saracen equipment and buildings. One nitpick that really bothered me was the fact that the blessings show Veles' symbol, which is the symbol of the Slavic god of the Underworld, Veles. It really made no sense, and kinda bothered me, I have a feeling like it was like that in the beta and the developers forgot to place the star and crescent in there. The blessings themselves are very well made. In conclusion, even with some pitfalls, it's still a very well made nations, and one of my favorites (if not favorite).

8.5/10

3. Conclusion:
The DLC is very well made, though I still recommend you buy it when it's on sale unless you really want to support the developers. It adds enough things to the game and feels very fresh. One bad thing regarding the DLC is the fact that I think that it's really the only DLC AL will ever have (unless AL2 becomes a thing) and it really leaves me wanting more, because the game itself, not just the DLC had very high potentials, and could have easily become the greatest RTS game. Besides that though, I still think it's all well made.
I give Ancestors Legacy - Saladin's Conquest a very solid 8/10

Ancestors Legacy is a squad-based RTS game developed by Destructive Creations and published by 1C Entertainment. The game was released on 22 of May, 2018 and (from my knowledge) it wasn't as successful as the developers have hoped, although it's far from a failure.

I've written my review earlier, and then realized that it was too long for Steam's standards, since I wanted to make a tl;dr version of it at the end anyway, I'll just write that.

1. Gameplay
- The gameplay in this game feels really good, the rock-paper-scissors mechanics of the units intrigue me, however some cons are the fact that formations are stiff and don't work like in say AoE2.

7.5/10

2. Graphics
- The graphics are not the greatest, but they are still well made for me, and the aesthetic of the units and the environment compliments the UI very well. While not being too impressive, as far as RTS games go, it's one of the more graphically advanced game on the market today. The only issue I have with it is the lack of customization regarding the colors, which are limited to blue (you), green (ally), and red (enemy).

7/10

3. Story/Campaigns
The cutscenes, the missions, the characters are all done very well. I've heard a complaint from a couple reviewers that the voice acting sucks in this game, and while voice acting is certainly not top notch, it's far from what the critics say, ant it's done very well actually, the lines are memorable and quotable. The cutscenes are stunning and I recommend you check them out if you're thinking of buying the game, I have nothing but good things to say about them. The missions are medium length, and are better than your tipical RTS campaign, though the AI knows to cheat sometimes, and while it doesn't make the missions harder, it just makes them a bit longer.

7/10

4. Music
The soundtrack is just amazing, it's hands down one of the best soundtracks in video game history I say. I still listen to the songs every day just because how good they are, I think that soundtracks are important in video games because it does effect them on an ambiental level, and for an indie game, the soundtrack is made fantastically. I recommend you go and hear it for yourself.

10/10

5. Conclusion
Ancestors Legacy is a Decent game, it's one of my favorite indie games, though I'd still recommend you try it when it's on sale unless your really want to support the developers. The biggest downside in this game I'd say is the fact that developers have abandoned it and have left it all for the modders. The multiplayer is dead (aside from the occasional pro that will wreck you under 30 minutes), and it seems as though there will be no upcoming DLC. It's very unfortunate to hear, because this game is very well made, and the fact that it's good just makes me crave for more. I would very much like to see an Ancestors Legacy 2, because I believe it has the potential to be a masterpiece.
In conclusion, Ancestors Legacy, while being flawed is a very well made indie RTS game, and if the pros overwhelm the cons, I suggest you buy this game, for me, it's the best birthday present I have received in a long time.

Ancestors Legacy: 8/10
