now let me just say that i haven't played every single metro game. this is pretty much the first metro game i've taken my time with.

while the game looks great, sounds great, has great animations, very realistic (well as much as a post apocalyptic game can be) and it also sounds great however i have some problems with the main story. while i think the story makes some sense i just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate being a silent protagonist. every npc talks as if you would respond which makes pretty much every interaction with them extremely akward. you just stand there like a dumbass staring at them while they wait for you to respond. this also makes no sense at all since your character is fully voiced in both dlc's which adds some character. the only time you hear artyom talk is during level transitions and in the end cinematic. it just baffles me that they decided to make him mute during gameplay but add voiceovers after levels and in the end cinematic. i also have some issues with some npc's. anna in particular. it feels like the only reason why she's there is to be you token love interest and simp over.

there's also a child which you'll meet early in the game that's extremely annoying. her entire job is to be the "sweet innocent child" she has no reason to be in the other than being the sweet little flower that won't hurt a soul. she's just so annoying and i hate that the only reason for her being there is because the devs wanted the game to contain a child. she's insanely bland and has no personality at all. she just falls so flat you'd think she's a talking carpet

the gameplay in itself is good. the weapons don't have hollywood recoil and they don't have obsurd amounts of recoil either. the stealth, while basic is quite enjoyable. the fact that you can put out fires or shoot lamps is a really nice touch. it can make it much easier to sneak by unnoticed. the AI aren't totally braindead which is nice. the fact that your guns can get full off mud and jam is also a nice touch which adds some difficulty. it can be extremely detrimental if you never clean your guns so they constantly jam during a fight. resources are scattered around and are quite plentyfull so you never really have to worry about running out. upgrades aren't locked behind levels or some other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ roadblock. you'll just have to find them out in the world and most weapons aren't just given to you on a silver platter. you'll have to take them off dead enemies out in the world.

my issue with the game are the bugs. oh the bugs. i can't even count the amount of times i've run into some incredibly stupid bugs. getting stuck in random places isn't uncommon. i once got stuck in a shelf i was standing on and the only thing i could do was sit there and watch as several enemies take their turn with me.

objects that seem like you should be able to climb have no clipping so i sometimes find myself thinking i found an alternate route to an objective only to find myself walking straight through the object in question. enemies often never stop being alerted. i once sat around for probably 20 minutes waiting for the enemy to calm down but they never did so i had to reload a previous save to get them to calm down and approach the situation in a different way. enemies can turn into absolute potatoes that just stand there an look at you

some scenarios make no sense whatsoever. you can sneak by every enemy making sure to not get spotted or alert them but as soon as you flip a switch or reach a certain spot all the enemies suddenly know exactly where you are so you are left with no other choice than killing them all even if you wanted to avoid conflict.

the 2 colonels dlc is short but filled with story. i enjoyed it because it was something different from the main game. it introduces a new weapon which is really fun to use and the dlc itself gives some backstory to the main game. the characters actually have some personality instead of just being the stereotypical love interest or the irritating child that you're suppossed to find cute and care for.

sam's story adds some additional story to one of your squad members and adds a nice new locations that's different from what you've experienced in the base game. new enemies. new allies and more conflicts to solve with new characters with their own personalities. this time around the dlc is more focused around doing a task. yes there is a story but the dlc focuses more on gameplay. the new weapons also bring a nice change. it's nice to have something other than AK's or homemade weapons to use. the ending was quite nice too. as i mentioned before having a voiced protagonist is a really nice change from the base game but i have to say. sam is just the stereotypical "badass brodude" american shouting oneliners all the time which can make it insufferable constantly having to deal with his idiotic insults and stereotypical 80's american actionmovie oneliners.

this games approach to morality is also a nice change. there's no counter or bar to tell you how good or evil you are. you have no idea if you've been a good boy or an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ untill after you're done with a chapter now you do get some hints as to if you've made the morally good or bad decision in certain situations and your actions can change the rest of the game in more ways than people disliking you which is a breath of fresh air but the game doesn't shove it in your face which i appreciate.

now i know that i've said a lot of good things about this game but the only times i actually enjoyed the game was when i was sat still listening to music or listening to other characters. the rest of the game was just filled with frustration and retardation. there's a lot of things that make no sense whatsoever and it can be extremely predictable which just ruins any kind of immersion. as an example you can avoid conflict during an entire mission but as soon as you get to the objective your character likes to just barge in guns blazing and it just feels so pointless to carefully move through a level when your control gets taken away and the game forces you into a gunfight. even if certain characters constantly talk ♥♥♥♥ about you and hate your guts as soon as you get to a certain point they treat you like you've done nothing to gain their hatred.

overall i wouldn't recommend this game. it's a bugridden mess with a few moments of enjoyment. considering the fact that it's been over 2 years since the release the devs seem to have absolutely no intention of fixing the game, especially since they've recently announced that they're gonna sell the exact same game again just with some prettier graphics, therefor i wouldn't recommend buying the upcomming version either
