Great game. It isn't boring as long as you don't spam basic attacks all the time.

Swept Under The Rug

Mafia 3 is one of those games that nobody talks about. Ever since I bought it, I've heard nothing about it. It got okay reviews. Nothing amazing. But I think it turned out to be a good Mafia game.
It hurts to see how much love and attention has been put into this game and see almost nothing for it. I know that there are a lot of problems with the game. But that doesn't mean it's worth forgetting about.

The Good
  • The story is great. It fits very well for a Mafia game.
  • The characters are pretty good. (Lincoln, Father James, Vito, Donovan, etc.)
  • The map of New Bordeaux is outstanding. You really do feel like you are in the late 60's.
  • The cars feel great. Not as boaty and in depth as Mafia 2, but still a great driving model.
  • The visuals are kinda a 50/50. Sometimes they can look awesome. Other times, not so much.
  • The Music is 11/10. I honestly couldn't tell you how much I love it.

The Not So Good
  • The game is poorly optimized. I'm running an i5 7600k with a 1070sc and getting an unstable framerate. It goes from 60 to 45, then back to 60. And I'm well over the recommended specifications.
  • I've experienced a lot of crashes. Especially during cutscenes. It's pretty rare, but they do happen.
  • The story progression is kinda bad. If you are one to explore and do other than the main objectives... Don't do it. Because if you go to a certain place and kill a bunch of enemies. It leaves some of the story empty.
  • The physics and takedowns can be a little... messy, to say the least. For example, You go and blow some guys head off with a shotgun and then his corpse magically teleports into a wall behind you. Kinda messy huh?
  • Some parts of the story (especially when you kill a boss to gain territory) can get extremely repetitive and boring. They re-use the same two executions and there is never anything new to run into while doing this.

To Sum It All Up...
It's a good game. Does it have a lot of problems? Ya, for sure. But are they major game breaking bugs? Hell no. I believe that Hangar 13 did a great job on this game. If they didn't have all of the problems that they had during launch (especially capping the framerate at 30) than the game could have had better reviews. Most of the people who bought it and played it stopped after the first 1-3 hours of the story because of the bugs.

Should I Buy This Game?
That's a tough question. If you have played either Mafia or Mafia 2. Then I think you should pick it up. If you like dark revenge stories than I'd also give it a go. But this isn't a game trying to be like GTA. It has an entirely different pace and feel. But If you do play games like GTA, it will feel a bit similar. If you are someone who likes open world games just to mess around in. Don't buy it. The game is pretty empty without getting involved in the story.

This is a great game 10/10

I am really disappointed to see how many people believed all of the false allegations about Alec Holowaka. People should have been smart enough to understand that Zoë Quinn is an attention ♥♥♥♥♥. She has falsely accused many in her life, and she still believes her own fantasy is the truth. Alec Holowaka didn't deserve the amount of hate he got from all of this. And this game doesn't deserve these terrible reviews. But yet half of you still dance on his grave blaming him for something he never did.

The Game Itself

This is a fantastic game that I would recommend to anyone who loves laid back stories. It might be a bit slow at the beginning, but once you spent some time in the game you'll find yourself playing until you hit the credits.

The Good
  • The game has an amazing art style
  • It has great writing
  • Wonderful story
  • Has more than 1 ending/different outcomes
  • The gameplay is fluid and makes a great platformer 75% of the time

The Not So Good

  • The deadzone for Walking/Running is a bit messy on controller (I used an Xbox one controller)
  • The pacing at the beginning is a bit slow. But that's probably just me
  • I've had the game crash on me about 2 times. (Mainly during the car scenes)

Overall

I think this is a is fantastic game. If you are thinking about picking it up, just do it. And do yourself a favor and don't listen to what any of the media is saying. Alec Holowa is at no means guilty. Zoë Quinn just frames whoever she's met in the past for more attention. There has been more than enough evidence that Alec didn't do what Zoë has accused him of. All of my condolences go to Alec Holowa and his Family/Friends.

I hope this review helped you in some way. I will respond to Creative comments.
Thank you for reading this, have a wonderful day.

My Take On The April Update

This new update introduces the brand new Tournament Mode. It gives players a new set of challenges that they have to complete in a certain time frame. It also allows them to buy rewards with the new fame mechanic. No microtransactions here. You simply earn fame by completing high on the leaderboard of the given challenge. You can win multiple different things, such as cars, liveries, and cosmetics. This update gives players a reason to hop on every now and then and try their best to win new rewards. It's great to see such a polished system put into the game.

The Good

  • The game is very well optimized. Loading times are now as advertised (80% faster)
  • Cars handle and wreck very heavily. It has been improved majorly over time.
  • There are plenty of cars to choose from. Even if you don't have the Season Pass.
  • The game overall is very polished and doesn't feel like it's still in Early Access.
  • Car customization is great. The only thing they are missing is a full on livery editor.

The Season Pass

Originally I wouldn't exactly recommend it. Back when it first released it didn't have a whole lot to offer. But as of right now, I'd say it's a must buy. Especially when the game itself is only $40. So just including it, the game evens out to $60. Like most racers. It's got a LOT of content. You do get a slight advantage in cars compared to people who don't. But there are still plenty of base cars that can out-perform the Season pass cars.

The Not So Good

  • There are some bugs still left to be ironed out here and there. (but the team is very consistent with polishing them out.)
  • The Career mode is bland. Not exactly a bad thing. Just don't expect anything more fancy then FM7's.

So far the game has been great! I originally wrote this review in August when the game fully released, and they have improved it majorly since then. So I believe Bugbear knows what they are doing. And hopefully with this new Tournament mode, they will bring a lot more interesting content to the table.

So, if you are looking for a good racing game. I'd say give it whirl. You'll like it a lot. It doesn't have a steep learning curve either. The handling is realistic yet manageable. But Please, don't pick this game up expecting something like iRacing or Gran Turismo when it comes to online. People are brutal in this game, and so are the AI. You won't get a clean racing experience unless you are miles away from your competition.

I hope this was helpful to someone. I hope you have a good day.

Why Does This Exist?

This game may fool you by its name, But It's not a Flatout game. It's your average garbage that Team 6 makes. I don't know why they had the Flatout name at the time, but it sure hasn't regained its popularity ever since. If you so happen to enjoy this game, You just aren't human. There is nothing here that yells "There was Effort!". Seriously Nothing is good, I have tried to milk as much play time as I could out of this "game". It was a horrible experience. And somehow the game is bigger in file size than the first 2 games combined. I don't know where all that space went, but it surely doesn't deserve to be on my hard drive. Alright, I'll stop rambling and get on with the "pros" and cons.

The "Good"

  • It runs pretty well on modern hardware.
  • It has a large variety of vehicles. (Even though you'll never drive all of them.)
  • They kept all of the good game modes from previous entries. (Though they all suck in comparison.)

The Bad

  • Graphics are nauseatingly bad. Flatout from 2005 looks miles ahead of this... and it's 6 years older.
  • The handling model is worse than most Unity made mobile games.
  • Physics just Flatout don't even work properly.
  • Controls are just outright horrible. Can you believe that they advertised Wheel support!
  • The AI are ridiculously stupid. Don't even attempt derbies, the AI were only programmed to hit You.
  • The "Soundtrack" is so bland, it's depressing. Legit, Just mute the game and listen to your computers fans.
  • The Damage Model is just sad. They only had to do one thing to make it a Flatout game, and they failed at it... miserably.
  • The Graphics settings. There isn't even an option for Vsync, and it is one of the most needed options for this game. It has an extreme amount of screen tearing.
  • Literally everything else there is to the game.

So ya, that's about everything I can think of from the top of my head. I seriously tried to jump in and do as much as I possibly could to enjoy it, but I just couldn't. Even if you imagine the game as something that isn't Flatout, it still fails to be that. I can't even call the game incomplete or rushed. It's just bad. There is nothing they could have done to make this garbage better.

The title is the only reason this game has been played by more than 20 people. And the only reason why 99% of people who have this game in their library, is because they bought either the Flatout Complete Pack or the Flatout Anthology Pack. And I am sure that we can all agree that this game wouldn't have been missed if it wasn't in any of the packs.

I can't recommend this game to anyone. Even if you like racing games in general, there is nothing of value here. It doesn't deserve the Flatout name in any way, shape or form. I'll go as far as to say anything Team 6 makes just isn't worth it. They started making games in 2001, and they haven't made anything that shows that they are worth buying from. I know making games is hard. I'm not saying that they can't make anything good. But come on guys. There hasn't been any effort put into this game, and it shows.

It's a Solid 2/10
And that's only because I'm being generous

I'll make this my shortest review yet.

It's an enjoyable sandbox game that you can play with your friends... (and possibly lose some doing so)
