If you assume that there's no reason to play Left 4 Dead 1 simply due to the fact Left 4 Dead 2 has it's Campaigns and more then you may be mistaken.

Despite L4D2 having more content and L4D1's Campaigns, the director is still programmed to act the same as he/she does in Left 4 Dead 2. Left 4 Dead 2's versions of Left 4 Dead 1's campaigns give you the same amount of resources that you'd get in Left 4 Dead 2's Campaigns and it takes away from the atmosphere of the campaigns of Left 4 Dead 1.

In Left 4 Dead 1, the resources are far more scarce. They are further apart will keep you on your toes. You have to be careful unlike the versions of these Campaigns in L4D2 making the original Left 4 Dead better in terms of being a, somewhat Rogue-like, Zombie Survival Game. How many times do you find yourself running low on ammunition in Left 4 Dead 2 and having to be more careful? Probably not as often as in Left 4 Dead 1.

While you will probably find yourself playing Left 4 Dead 2 more (and I'd be hard pressed to say it isn't the better game with the amount of content it adds) please experience the original Left 4 Dead Campaigns in Left 4 Dead 1 especially if you're a new player who has yet to experience those campaigns in either version. I'd definitely recommend playing L4D1 first.
