DECEPTION, IS THE main theme presented throughout Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth. Even though it is his shortest work, it does not lean back from deep themes and I think the reccuring theme of deception and manipulation, which ties into that, on behalf of Lady Macbeth, really presents how much can be presented in such a short play.

We first meet this theme when Lady Macbeth tells our tragic hero to "look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under it", the context being the idea to kill Duncan in order to take his crown, which is pretty ironic, considering only a scene ago Macbeth uses the quote "why do you dress me in borrowed robes", reinforcing the idea of deception, or maybe change in Macbeth's character arc.

This theme ultimately leads to both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's demise as their plans and deceptions end up backfiring.
