I've survived a number of CyberConnect2 games in my life but not this one.

I have hundreds and hundreds of hours on Storm 4, which was far from the perfect fighting game by any means, but it at least had some integrity about it...

Let me start with some positives I have noticed off the bat.

This game has revamped the majority of the roster so that the combo breaks and jutsus work slightly differently from the game prior (Ultimate Ninja Storm 4). It has also added significant chakra regeneration during combat in an attempt to both speed up gameplay and prevent the player from getting caught while recharging mid-game, all of this along with a revised counter system and a handful of new characters. On top of that, they've added thousands of in-game items to collect. These collectibles allow you to revise how your character looks while fighting other players (EG: sunglasses, wardrobe color palettes, entire outfits, etc. ) to other niche things like your online background picture while you're just sitting in the lobby waiting for a match.
Kind of cool right?

Now.. let me get into the nitty gritty of why you should NOT buy this game.

For starters. the campaign is simply a mish-mash of slides involving the Naruto anime, which, although does a decent job catching the player up on the overall story, does not do the prior Storm games any justice on that front. It's like a presentation that was sewn together the morning it needed be presented.

Next, The online does not have any invite system nor a leave system prior to getting que'd with another player from the game. So not only can you NOT invite your friends to play with you, if you get into a game with a player that has a terrible connection, you're SOL. You HAVE to play him, or ALT-F4 and eat the disconnect the game gives you (which ultimately makes you look like a quitter). This goes for both Ranked AND Casual matches. Take a minute to digest just how poorly devised that is.

Now, lets get into the base gameplay. The game has carried the majority of its in-game systems over from Storm 4, however, the overall experiences deviates in a handful of ways. The Developer, CyberConnect2, poked and prodded their way into making the player feel like its a refreshing gameplay experience, until you start uncorking the nuts and bolts and realizing just how casual the gameplay loop has become. Just about every character that exist within the roster has been altered so their combo strings work somewhat differently, which is CC2's smoke and mirrors method of adding a 'refreshing' gameplay experience. While there is a multitude of characters on the roster at your disposal, they've added a certain 'ease-of-access' to the intricacies and timings of the combos. I guess what I'm trying to say is, yes, there is still a learning curve to the game, but that curve has been flattened significantly in an effort to appeal to the general player base.

To elaborate further without sounding redundant, this game embodies the worst aspects of Storm Generations and Storm Revolution while also maintaining the facade of a 'new' Storm game. Needless to say, this game is a definitive cash grab, and the only way for progression within the verse of Fighting games to occur, is for us consumers to STOP consuming. It's time companies like CC2 are held accountable for their lackluster, overcharged, gaming experiences that are haphazardly thrown together targeting the demographic that doesn't understand fully what money even is yet. Once games like this start to fail, better companies and games will fill the void and we'll be able to see some semblance of progression begin to occur.

DON'T BUY THIS RUBBISH. There WILL be far better games. Cheers.
