TBH I listened to the angry voices and I believed them for a while. That is, until I purchased the DLCs for this game and might I say, HOLY S**T! It unlocks so much of the game and, honestly, makes it quite fun. I had a little over 50Hrs on this game and purchased the DLCs, now I have over 300Hrs of playtime and the game is still fun. After a while of not finding a good game to vibe with, Destiny 2 has made gaming fun again. Yes the community is toxic, but alot of communities are. I would definitely recommend playing some Destiny 2 before purchasing the DLCs. The only downside is that a few weapons are stuck behind paywalls, but there are other options for weapons. And the fact that they just made the Forsaken DLC exotics free, I definitely recommend giving destiny 2 a shoy.
