Game mechanics came to be way more complex compared to the fifth game. I am glad that you actually have to plan your cities now if you want to win on higher difficulties. Since there are many leaders and maps in the game, the re-playibility shouldn’t be underestimated. However, after a while this game gets too fixed on focusing to win. When you start pouring your first hours into the game, playing on any difficulty is very fun since you get to experience all sorts of unique mechanics while trying to learn the strategic side of the game. After a while though, you will start to either finish the games without much hardship, or just quit the game mid-way, knowing that you would have won anyway. A lot. Therefore, the only option left is to raise the difficulty. The only thing that’s wrong with this is that you get used to that too. At this point of the game, the only part that can be called ‘’very fun’’ is the struggle to keep up with the AI at the beginning of the games. After then that, the rest of the game starts to feel expectable and stable, so you turn back to the very beginning of the cycle where you either 1. ‘’Finish the game without much hardship’’, or 2. ‘’Quit the game mid-way, knowing that you would have won anyway’’. Notice that even though this may not be neccesarily true in all of your play-throughs, it still occurs very often.

Also, even though you don’t need DLCs to have fun, you need them to make the most out of this game. The DLCs definetly multiply the fun tenfold. Some of those mechanics feel like they should have been included in the base game. Sadly though, all this talk about DLCs isn’t unique to Civilization VI, so it was only expected.
There are many other good and bad things to talk about, but this game is definetly worthy of playing. Overall, a great strategy game which not only includes military strategy, but also many other winning conditions.
