I've been with this game since 2019 and it is a great game!

The game will appeal to those who have a sense of adventure, love intricate well written backstories, enjoy playing with others, beautifully designed game environments and solving complex challenges for certain objectives.
However this game is nothing if you are playing alone; playing with others is part of what defines Destiny 2. Finding a clan or group of friends to play with is almost essential if you are to enjoy the game to its fullest; luckily many in the wide Destiny 2 community are wholesome.

What sets it apart from games like Borderlands or Warframe?

It's mainly with the different stories, myriad of weapons (although borderlands is arguably better), different aesthetics and the quest difficulties. Destiny 2 is unique in offering massive multiplayer modes, beautiful game environments, possibly one of the largest fanbases, superior gun gameplay and an endless supply of surprise and adventure.

A negative would be the seasons and DLC's. These are paid and in most cases will be necessary in order to play with others but not necessary to progress in the game. No one likes missing out when your friends are enjoying season-specific content you haven't paid for. Furthermore, Destiny 2 is based on how much you play. More grinding / time will mean more progress and vice versa.

Personally, it has been worth every dollar to purchase and buy the DLC's ( I dont have all of them). Also note that you do not have to purchase every single DLC; you can wait for other's reviews and skip it without much detriment to you. Additionally, the base game (free) is plenty enough to gauge whether or not you want to expand the game content with DLC's.

If you only play this game for the campaign, ignore the quests and complain then you have only yourself to blame.

Don't like lengthy complex quests or cannot find friends? Maybe not for you.

Have a thirst for adventure and co-op solving challenges? It is worth paying for.

If this is your first shooter, you will have a tough time adjusting to the game (just like adjusting to any other fps), but it is fun in the long run if you appreciate actual strategy and teamwork (not blindly shooting at opponents like COD). If you come from another FPS game then its easy to adjust.
