40k mechanicus is a great game marred by some questionable design and balance decisions. Its great base of turn based combat is constantly undercut by unclear design and conflicting systems. The beginning of the game is rough, even on normal, at least until you start to unlock your starting Skitarii units. Most enemies for the duration of the game primarily attack you from range while there is little to no cover in most levels. This leads to you having your ass completely shot out from under you for most of the beginning of the game. Even when there is cover there is absolutely no way of seeing what is and isnt cover. Things that may look big enough to take cover behind end up being completely useless so you really just have to remember what pieces of level geometry/assets are and arent cover. This could be almost completely fixed if the game had a feature similar to XCOM EU and XCOM 2 where it showed what was considered non cover, half and full cover. Even after you get further into the game and unlock more Skitarii units to bring with you most of the game outside of melee combat involves moving out of what little cover there is, firing, and moving back. What ends up happening is sometimes you will have 4-5 units all stacked up on the same 1x1 tile of cover playing angles which doesnt so much feel like strategy as it does breaking the design of the game.

All in all 40k Mechanicus is a turn based strategy game with amazing music, visuals and SFX marred by some confusing mechanic design and level design decisions. It also suffers from a general feeling that this was their first try at making a turn based game and HOPEFULLY these systems will be improved upon and fixed in its upcoming sequel
