As a souls fan i was pretty excited for this "souls with guns" and when i got to my first fog gate i was ready to get my ass beat by a tough boss in my first bossfight of the game only.. i never actually got to "fight the boss". The fight started with him charging at me and me dodging to the side only to get jumped by 2 mobs and killed pretty much immediately. The 2nd time i decided to first take care of the ads so i circled around the boss and took them out before they got to me, thinking the fight could now actually begin i moved back towards to boss only to see more ads running at me before i could even get a good aim at the boss himself. This resulted in about half an hour of me killing ads over and over again, dying and returning when they overwhelmed me or my ammo ran out and never actually fighting the boss or even shooting it more than once or twice before returning to the tedious ad control duty. After about 30 minutes of killing the same mobs over and over i realized is was neither challenging nor actually fun for me anymore and i just didn't feel like continuing or excited to play at all so i ended my session and refunded.

After being gifted a copy of the game i decided to give it another shot and update my review with any new insights gained while playing additional hours. It turns out the infinitely spawning adds also drop far less ammo than is required to kill them, in later fights where the boss can easily have a dozen or so minions this means the more skillful you play and the more you kill that fewer resources you have. This seems to heavily punish more skillfull play that cannot be overwhelmed by simple number, it ads a layer of artificial scarcity to futher increase the artificial difficulty level of many of the bosses you face.

Great 4X / Turn-based strategy game with lots of replay value, strong campaign lines and great coöp mode. If you like games like the Civilization series, or the Heroes of Might & Magic series this game is one you're definitely going to like.
